mikeh Posted December 13, 2009 Report Share Posted December 13, 2009 I think this was a really mundane problem....far, far from being 'the worst' lead problem 'in many a time'. You lead either a heart or a spade.... at matchpoints, you lead a minor only if you are absolutely desperate...say it is barometer scoring, it is the last hand, and you are a third of a board out of 1st and a board ahead of second, or don't care if you drop from 2nd to 8th. As for which major, the habits of a lifetime (which I view, perhaps optimistically, as internalized experience) suggest the spade 8, but I would never argue that it is significantly better, on average, than a low heart.
