4 fit non-jump. I'm more concerned about what's happening when they bid 5.

That's not in the toolkit, although perhaps your point is it should be. We play Standard American with most common intermediate-level conventions. 4C would simply be a natural bid.

4S is fine, don't see the point of 4C except to give the opps room, enable them to set up a forcing pass, enable them to show a double fit, enable them to evaluate their hands better, and in general to put no pressure on them while still putting your head on the chopping block.

One good point for 4: Partner would know what to lead if he doesn't hold clear lead.

But I wouldn't bid it. It is too likely to let opps evaluate their short correctly without much gain for our side.

(1) P (1) 1

(3) ??[/hv]

4 over 5 I will probably bid 5 (if partner doesn't beat me to it) since I won't know if I am bidding to make or save

I won't know if you are bidding to lose a partner or because you enjoy hearing the sound of your own voice repeat itself on a normal hand.

But I guess the important point is either way neither one of us knows why you would push to 5.

Hmmm I guess this is a demostration of "I can dish it out, but I can't take it" :D

Um lol yes, that must be it. Obviously when I said it was weird you reply to my posts 10 times a day that meant we never answer each other's posts ever again.

In all seriousness, bidding to 5 on your own after bidding 4 both vul (and with your doubleton opened on your right!) is so lousy that I couldn't in good conscience let it slide. Sorry!

OK np then. I ain't big fan of rebidding values either. That being said there are always exceptions. Do we expect partner to know we are in a possible double game swing situation? And for a 1 call in this auction I expect partner to "have the nuts". A hand like the one below is possible IMO [hv=s=saqjxxxhxxdkxxcax]133|100|[/hv]

Why do you expect this? Would it not be standard to bid 1 with any just about any holding with a good spade suit here (even AKxxx of spades and nothing beyond that)? If nothing else, isn't this a good bid for lead direction if E ends up playing in diamonds or NT?

I agree. Take away the A of C and this is still a 1S bid.
