what does "system on" mean?

Recommended Posts

1. When you open 1NT and left hand opponent doubles, responders call mean the same as without the double.

1NT - (Dbl) - 2 = stayman, 2 transfers for etc.

2. When you overcall 1NT and left hand passes, responders call mean the same as after opening 1NT

(1) - 1NT - (pass) - 2  = stayman, 2 transfers for etc.

it usually refers to the situations

1NT-(dbl)-?

where it means that we bid as if the opponent has passes instead of doubled, i.e. transfers and stayman etc apply.

and/or

(1)-1NT-(pass)-?

where it means that we bid as if partner had opened 1NT rather than overcalled, ie. stayman, transfers etc apply. (the opening bid could also be some other suit, is just an example).

Wellcome to the forum btw !

thanks dicklont & helene_t,

the next question is, if i agree system on for both situations, should i write on cc "system on over double and overcall" or something similar?

System on over overcall sounds as if it applies when p opens 1nt and they overcall.

Better put it in the relevant secotions. Under defensive bidding, put 1NT=15-18 (system on)
