vuroth
1♦ X P 3♣3♦ 3♥ P ? Was 3♥ forcing or not?
Jlall
Yes, when responder has shown values then a new suit by the T/O Xer is forcing. This includes even a freebid at the 1 level like 1C X 1D 1S p 2H is forcing. Maybe in the modern game it shouldn't be since the 1S bid could be very light, but that's how it is currently played. CERTAINLY when partner has jumped though a new suit is forcing.
vuroth
Thanks. Maybe I'll do better when I stop thinking that GiB knows something that I don't. Then again, 3♥+4 was >50% of the matchpoints....

In your example hand what is 3♥ or 4♥ instead of 2♥?
TylerE
Yes, still forcing. Jumps show extra trump length. Forcing becuase you don't double and then bid with trash.
TylerE
Also, as a conventional idea...playing either a leb-type structure or a Good 2NT by responder after doubler's rebid: e.g. if advancer bids 2N it shows a decent hand (like 5-9), and anything else is just desire to get out cheaply unless opener can make game opp. nothing. I'm confused.1C X 1D 1S p 2H what is wasted is a use for (1♣) X (1♦) 1♠; (P) 3♥ or 4♥. Essentially 1♠ is at best a minimal non forcing response so you need to create degrees of meaning with your other available calls
