by almost a board.

See pages 7 (a pix of Justin and father, or is that Phil?) and 1 of today's bulletin:

SD Bulletin 3

Tor Helness and Martin Andresen, in 17th place with a session to go, posted a 68.31% game in the final session of the Bobby Nail Life Master Open Pairs to win the event by nearly a board ... Runners-up in the Nail LM Open Pairs: Hemant and Justin Lall. ... Andresen, a professional soccer player – “football” in his homeland – is less well known outside Europe.

3rd was Meckton and 4th was involved in the appeal on page 6

Heh, it's all a matter of perspective... Coming from 17th and 2.5 boards out I am very happy with 2nd, but I guarantee you we were winning by more than a board after like 7 or 8 rounds. We were just having a huge game with probably no board below average. Then we had a round with 2 zeroes and it was the most frustrating thing ever. So basically mentally it felt like we blew it when we had a clear lead even though we started at 17th, that's why it's extremely disappointing.

I'm sure Martin Andresen must be wondering what he did in previous life to deserve all this:

professional football career;

captain of his national team;

stunning good looks;

good at bridge; and

heir to the Norwegian furniture manufacturer Skeidar.

He sounds like a really nice bloke too!

Gnome and I were downstairs after our KO and saw Justin in about the 11th round right after the bad boards. Sort of like being in the Laker huddle after a letdown. Still a great finish and the 1st of many I'm sure.Get them next time.

Is he still bachelor?

I was following him the entire second session. Definitely ranks up there as one of the better-looking bridge players, along with the pair I was following the first day, too.

Martin is a really nice guy. Very nice, in fact. Off the football pitch, that is.

Alright I've heard enough about his bridge career and his soccer achievements. Could somebody comment on whether he is a nice guy or not?

He lost his convention card less often than Lindqvist. And was nice enough to move when asked to move early so that we could start the last round.

Thx, we were 18 VPs back of 1st I think (20 point scale), and we got a complete blitz when we played them so pretty much we had zero chance to catch them, so very happy about this!

yes. Winners were very strong team. Judging from what I have seen of Gromov's team in Tallinn.

But I think you will beat them in a few years :)
