That is a tool, but we rarely use it unless we intend to follow up with a CUE. Your point is an important biproduct of Namyats. mikeh Posted November 27, 2009 Report Share Posted November 27, 2009 Keycard is obvious, but not foolproof: AQJxxxxx x Ax xx won't get us to grand and most of us know how to pick off a singleton K offside, when holding a 12 card fit. BTW, if we did get the magic answer of 3 keycards, bid 7♠, not 7N. There will be some hands on which the ability to ruff will be critical in providing extra chances. Even tho it's mps, my view is that when bidding a grand that may be missed by a good part of the field (see how many just bid 6♠ here), choose the safest rather than the highest scoring. mikeh Posted November 27, 2009 Report Share Posted November 27, 2009 As an add-on, change the hand slightly: 108xx AKQJ QJx Ax.... we'd want to be in 7♠ opposite a diamond void, small opposite a stiff and below slam otherwise. When I play Namyats, a bid beyond 4 of the major shows a hand with slam interest...'we have 12 tricks if we don't lose 2 quick ones' and is a cue of the lower of two touching Aces (leave the trump suit out..... we have an agreement that namyats always delivers the trump Ace). So we would bid 5♥, showing the club and heart Aces, and asking, by inference, for a diamond control. Partner places the contract according to his diamond holding: he can bid 6♦ with the Ace, in case 7N is the best spot, and 7♠ with a void (so we don't 'correct' to 7N) and so on.
