mohitz
Was kibitzing this deal on vugraph. RHO deals (1♠) - p - (p) - X(2♠) - ? You hold [hv=d=e&v=n&s=s9xxxhkqtdjxxcakx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]
helene_t
I think most play dbl as penalty, in which case I will go for it. I am OK with an optional double also. Or an undiscussed dbl for that matter. Edit: Thinking more about it a penalty dbl must be wrong at IMPs. (Now someone will LOL me for changing my vote in order to agree with Justin). Would still go for an optional double. Btw this double really shouldn't be t/o, with a t/o-ish 10-count you can usually bid a suit. With 2344 a scrambling 2NT would be nice, do we play that? Jlall
I pass. I play double as penalty else this is probably routine X.
whereagles
I pass. I play double as take-out, so this is a routine pass.

gnasher
I'd make a responsive double. That will work well if partner has a five-card minor, and less well if he doesn't. I can't stomach a pass - I do have 13 fairly prime points with no spade wastage. We could miss a completely solid game opposite x AJxx KQ10xx Qxx

A pretty good 12 is not close to a min in passout seat, and he does have a stiff spade which he might well not have. I dunno I guess you could be worried about partner sitting for it and it making, but he did not X 2S. I guess it also makes constructive bidding insanely difficult if your ranges are so wide... I guess if you play responsive Xs of 2S this hand is an easy pass, and if you play penalty Xs maybe it's reasonable to reopen. As I said if I played responsive Xs I would consider this hand to be an easy one.
jikl
I pass, if partner has real values instead of balancing values they might double again. Sean
