mohitz
Playing IMP against friends, you get the following beautiful hand. RHO deals and passes. [hv=d=e&v=b&s=satxhdakqjt9xxcxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You are playing 2/1. I will assume for now you open 1D. The auction goes 1♦ - (1♥) - 1♠ - (4♣) ? 1♠ = 5+ spades4♣ = Fit jump What do you bid now and what's the general plan? Thanks
TylerE
I'm gonna cue 4♥. If partner can't find a 5♣ bid we'll stop in a making spot.
kenrexford
I'm gonna cue 4♥. If partner can't find a 5♣ bid we'll stop in a making spot. That works.

whereagles
I'll make a fake cue in 5♣ and then finish off with 7♦. With some luck they start with a heart :P

cherdanno
I would take 4H as a good raise of spades. Not saying I am right, it's just that if I were responder that's how I would interpret it. And that's not what I would like to show with this hand. Fluffy
I like the 7♦ gamble actually, doesn't look like a hand where we will make 12.
Jlall
Jumping to 7 seems terrible, they will lead a club 100 %. Would much prefer a jump to 7 with xx hearts rather than xx clubs.
mohitz
Ok, assuming you bid 4♥ now, it continues 1♦ - (1♥) - 1♠ - (4♣)4♥ - (5♣) - ? Is this a forcing pass situation for partner? What would a pass by him show? What would a double and what would bidding 5S show? Irrespective of whether he passes or doubles, advancer bids 5♥. If partner bids 5♠, advancer passes. What do you bid next? Will give the complete hand later.
benlessard
The best way to avoid a club lead is to X 4C, i dont have the balls for it but im tempted. My guess is that most partnership wont be able to play 4C X here. I would take 4H as a good raise of spades. Not saying I am right, it's just that if I were responder that's how I would interpret it. And that's not what I would like to show with this hand.Since their 4C is forcing, you can bid 4S directly, pass and bid 4S or bid 4D followed by 4S. So 4H has to be a cuebid
Codo
I had bid 4 Diamond, because in my usual system this shows a fit and running diamond, but within a more standard context I had bid 4 Heart, which is a forcing and strong spade raise and does not show or deny a control. But we are ina FP Situation after this. Now I bid 5 Spade. THis may not make, but I dislike the chances to win the board with a double, so no other choice. Free
What about a Zia 6♣ bid (over 4♣ I mean)? :P

What do you bid next? Will give the complete hand later. A forcing pass is on here because of 4♥, but obviously responder is expecting more like 4-5 or 4-6 in the pointed suits rather than 3-8 :P --Double is a defensive minimum; probably weakish spades and maybe a slow heart trick. It could also warn of a slow club card too. --5♠ in a vacuum is an offensive minimum. A 6th spade and club shortness fits. --Pass is either strong for the bidding (rare) but is usually: I don't know what to do. I'm not sure what I would do here TBH.
