Enemy suit after t/o double at 2level

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I hold : AJTxx xx Qxx xxx

Bidding :

2 (weak) - double - pass - 2

pass - 3 - pass - ???

Now I have bid 3 hoping that partner will bid 3NT with stopper, cuebid with real monster and bid 4 with nothing special; To my surprise partner passed which was obviously not good for us.

My question is : how do you play enemy suit after t/o double at this level ? Is it forcing to game ro just one round ? Same would apply in the bidding :

2 - double - pass - 2

pass - 3

All thoughts/comments/info about your favourite or expert partnerthips agreements are welcome

2 shows a bad hand (I personally will jump here with an average 8 count), so I don't see why it really shocks you that 3 gets passed. 3 showed, depending on agreements, either a good hand, or a good hand without a stop, and all you could was retreat to your suit?

Bottom Line: The cue is only a one round force.

Yeah, partner typically has a 3424 with 18+ points. What else can he bid with such a hand?

I am not saying it's good or bad agreement but 3-4-2-4 18pc is not really a problem. Partner can just bid 3 invitational. I will bid 3nt with only 4spades and stopped and if I don't have stopper then is the only game to play anyway;

No. If you have a 0-count with 4-4 majors, you will bid 2 first (in order to anticipate partner's 3 bid), then partner bids 3 with his 3424 18-count, now you bid 3 and partner passes.

2-3

3-pass.

He will never (or almost never) raise your spades directly with 3-card support.

With 5 working points, despite the nice 5 card suit, 2 Spade was fine.

But 3 Spade was a crime.

Partner can have some possible hands for 3 Diamond, but 4 Spade cares for alll of them and shows what I have.
