paca1987
[hv=s=s5hkq7652d6ckq1072]133|100|[/hv] Your pd opens 1♠ first seat vul, playing 2/1 Was watching a good American table on bbo and the way someone treat this hand confused me a bit. How do you continue de bidding?

Don't go berserk unless you really like playing misfits at game level so start with F1NT

Phil
At the slight risk of overbidding I will start showing my suits with 2♥.
aguahombre
The players who trust that opener will rebid after a forcing NT will not be as tempted to bid 2/1.
neilkaz
At the slight risk of overbidding I will start showing my suits with 2♥. 2♥ for me and with optimism. Vs a yarb we can often take 4 tricks in each rounded suit and here PD had opened the bidding. Sure it could be a total missfit, but I'll take that chance and GF now. Jlall
2H, wtp? Some days you have a misfit, but 1N seems absolutely ridiculous to me. What is your plan? You get to make some generic invite in hearts if you're lucky (partner doesn't bid 2S), and partner has no way of evaluating his hand and knowing that the right mins make game cold and the wrong hand with extras lead to game going down. Additionally if we have slam it becomes extremely hard to bid. Additionally if we belong in clubs it becomes really hard to bid. Just bid 2H then bid clubs then bid some more clubs. Get your suits in, get to slam if partner fits well, get too high on a sad gloomy day.
P_Marlowe
2H. The problem with 1NT is, that you wont be able to show your 2ndsuit, ... and it will also get problematic to show the inv. strength andthe correct length of your heart suit 2H after a 2D rebid showes 6 hearts, but is a weak bid.3H after a 2D rebid is a fit jump, showing 5 hearts and diamond support3H after a 2S rebid showes 6 1/2 hearts I could go on, as it is there are no good solutions, but it helps, if 2H followedby 3H is only inv. With kind regardsMarlowe
Codo
I would take the low road, this hand screams misfit, so I bid 1 NT.IF, for whatever luck we have, we have a fit, I can use the turbo later, but if we don't have one, I am happy to limit my hand right now. Yes I will lose heavily opposite partner 5332 or 5341, but I am well place opposite most other shapes.
mcphee
Looks rather easy to bid 2H, you would open the bidding with this hand I expect, so how can you now downgrade and not bid 2H?
mich-b
2♥ is my best hope to show both my suits.Yes , I might go down in game, so what ?
gnasher
The test I usually apply is "Do I want to be in game opposite a balanced 11-count?" On this hand the answer is obviously yes.

I am generally viewed, by my friends, as a conservative bidder but I think anything other than 2♥ is misguided for all the reasons Justin set forth. paca1987
Anyways i'm bidding 2♥ all day, just saw a good player bidding 1N.Wanted to be sure about that
aguahombre
and now you are sure? Perhaps the "good player" had different agreements about the use of forcing NT and its follow-ups, and could reach a good slam or game with the right combination --and could stay out of bad games with other combinations. And perhaps he didn't --and that was the reason for your original questions. I do not disagree with those whose style is to commit this responding hand to game with 2/1 and can handle the follow-ups after doing so. I only point out that this hand can also get to the right strain and level with other methods which start with the forcing NT. However, you are not playing "2/1 GF" if 2/1 is not game forcing. 2/1 not absolutely game forcing is also quite workable, if partner is in on it. jdonn
I want to say 2♥ would be unanimous among experts, but apparently we have witnessed one who didn't. WOW!
Fluffy
I disagree that 2♥ helps us finding the club fit, 1NT will help us better on that prupose, but anyway I am bidding 2♥.
