Notice of Thread/Post Moderation

inquiry

Maybe non-native speakers need to be explained what "special needs" refers to. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_needs

This piece of ***** gets tolerated because he hides his insults well-enough (just like his frequent anti-semitic dog whistles), whereas hrothgar, who (a) makes his insults direct and to the face, and (b) makes worthwhile contributions to the overall forum frequently gets disciplined.

This seems to be general BBF moderation policy. I got "disciplined" by inquiry once when I retaliated quite bluntly against a rather new poster (who is long gone now after 34 total posts) who insinuated that my English was bad. My post got deleted, the original insult was allowed to stand.

My opinion (which is normally worthless):

Reopen the d*** topic so that the trolls can troll there and the fools that feed trolls can feed them there (and I can go back to ignoring a silly thread) and both sets can stop flaming this thread!

The thread has been reopened.

FYI, the reason it took so long is not that we were being obstinate. The "We'll always have Paris" thread seemed to be a follow-on with the same general subject matter, so we didn't think the old one was still needed.

But since people seem to want the original, we're giving you what you want.

Makes sense. The topical nature of the subject lends itself to a constantly evolving discussion. As for those that have such strong personal feelings, it might be best that they avoid the topic. For those that wish to discuss the actual implications of the situation, it might not change any minds but at least it will provide additional useful information for further evaluation.

My position is one of questioning orthodoxy and exposing information that is relevant to the issue at hand. Personally, my feelings towards and about other posters have no relation to the nature of the posts. I do not respond to those that debase the debate (only a select few) but that is not a reason to avoid the topic. I am only invested in this subject because of its importance and relevance to our current affairs, and that is what I find interesting.

That some individuals find my position or approach unacceptable, that is unfortunate but unavoidable...apparently.

Within the scientific establishment, there's little. Within the public and political sphere, there's a great deal.

Quite, but intelligent people should not concede that there is a "controversy". This makes it seem as if the facts or their interpretation are open to question, and that people's opinions somehow have some bearing on the matter.

Controversy: "disagreement, typically when prolonged, public, and heated". Important, influential people have been arguing over it for decades. If that's not a controversy, what is it?

One side of the argument is wrong, but that doesn't negate the existence of the controversy.

We should have a thread about the vaccination controversy. Also the moon landing and holocaust controversies.

There's definitely a vaccination controversy -- there are enough people arguing against vaccination that it's a serious public health issue. I wouldn't call moon landing and holocaust denial a controversy -- there's no public disagreement about them, just a few fringe kooks denying them.

AND none of those 3 involve trillions of tax dollars being thrown down a wishing well. Just look at the IPCC WGs to see how they are twisted in the SPMs and how those politicised views are then torqued up to fit the agenda of the warmunists. NO evidence of ocean acidification at present, the "evidence" of the climate models diverging further from reality by the day, no measurable (negative) evidence of more severe weather and on and on. No wonder that people who actually delve into the science refuse to accept the meme.

Moved a topic from General Bridge Discussion to the Water Cooler. Since the discussion was about proper use of English grammar, rather than bridge, it would have led lead leded to caused confusion in the Bridge Discussions.

Removed a thread from the Expert Forums discussing behaviour of players who aren't here to defend themselves. Abuse issues should be sent to abuse@bridgebase.com.

Bother, I was looking forward to the negative double lecture
