Pass or 2H?

Playing match-points,

1 - (p) - 1 - (p)

1 - (p) - 1NT - (p)

?

[hv=d=s&v=n&s=saqxxhkxxdxcq9xxx]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv]

Q1: Would you rather bid 2 instead of 1?

Assuming you bid 1 earlier,

Q2: Does a 2 bid now promise extras?

Q3: If it does not promise extras, do you pass 1NT or try 2?

EDIT: You are playing 2/1 with a pickup partner.

Thanks in advance

1. 2 shows extras.

2. It depends a little on your system. If 1 and later 1 NT denied as much as 4 diamonds, then I would bid 2 Club. If my 1 Spade bid confirms an unbalanced hand allready, I would pass. If I always raise 2 Heart with this kind of hand, I would obviously have done so.

Without any agreements, I will try to relax while being dummy in 1 NT.

I play that 2 now shows extras. If not, then how do you handle that your range is so wide? I guess it's just a tradeoff for not having to rebid 2 as I do with this hand type, saving the "round-the-horn" bidding to show a K extra.

Artificial 2 showing a 2 bid with extras. 4135 with extras you bid 2NT. 4045 with extras you either open 1 or bid 2NT (gross but whatever).

I like this. Passing 1N also lets them balance in diamonds cheaply.

The full hand was

I remember when awm posted this idea on the forums.

Anyways I do not play that, I just play that 2H has a wide range of 11-15 and you go from there. If you have 16-17 bid 3H.

Yes it's my alltime favorite AWM idea. 2 instead of 2 as the drury bid is logical too, at least for spades.

It can't deny four diamonds. He could easily have 5-4 in the reds no matter what system we play (OK as long as we play a system I have heard about). Even 5-5 reds unless we have some exotic gadget to show such a hand.
