shyams
[hv=d=n&v=n&s=shajt8752dj92ck32]133|100|Scoring: MPPartner deals; vul vs NVNorth East South West1♣ - 1♠ - 2♥ - 2♠3♣ - 4♠ - ??With the 3♣ bid, partner denies 3-card ♥. You have no prior discussion whether partner also denies Kx/Qx in ♥ [/hv]Two extra questions:a. If you choose pass, would you expect it to be forcing or non-forcing?b. I hope you agree with the 2♥ bid in round 1. Do you?
gwnn
I think I bid 4NT two places to play. Partner should assume 0643, I think, and I will remove his 5D to 5H. edit: agree with the blue fish below me on the meaning of pass and that 2♥ was good. whereagles
gwnn, isn't that interpretation of 4NT a bit of a stretch? I mean... sometimes you want to ask for aces, no? eheh... It's good odds pard won't have much spade wastage, so I'll bid 5♠. A plain 6♣ will probably work better most of the time, though. As to the bonuses:a. Non forcing in my book (and Robson/Segal's lol). Would be forcing if they were at the 5 level.b. Sure.
gwnn
nah in competitive auctions where we havent found a fit i think it's definitely more intelligent to use 4nt as 2 places to play than rkc. I mean seriously, some people abandon RKC 4NT for minors altogether (sometimes retaining no ace asking mechanism at all), let alone when opps callously crowd our bidding area. Another playable treatment might be that 4NT is a good raise to 5♣. I'm OK with that here:P
effervesce
Agree, 4NT as aces in competitive auction is awful. On this particular hand it would be awful in any case - you have a freakin void! Im bidding 4NT two places to play as well-if partner shows heart support then 6♥ imo. If partner bids 5♣, I'm highly tempted to bid 5♥...

Codo
It is always nice to have fitting agreements about 4 NT or any other call. I don't have them in this situation and gamble 6 Club.
Fluffy
6♣ wont be so funny on a spade lead if partner has ♥ singleton.

Obviously we had no prior agreements in place for the 4NT bid. After the ensuing debacle, partner insisted 4NT was a stupid bid and a simple 5♣ was best. My thoughts before the 4NT bid was that I was not sure whether 5♥ plays better (partner could hold ♥xx or ♥Hx) and even 6♣ may be on (but only partner can tell). With the actual hand, partner had wasted values in majors and 5♣ was the best contract Thank you for your comments
Codo
So this is a 3 club bid in your book? What had you done with Ax,K,KQx,AQJxxxx or a little less? 3 Spade? 3 NT? 4 Club? Or do you play something like good bad 2 NT so that 3 club shows this hand? Or am I alone in my belive that this hand and the suit is too weak for 3 club? gwnn
hey shyams so was this a trick question? you chose something at the table but were too ashamed to even include it in the top 6 calls? :P if so you failed to trick me! :P

mikeh
3♣ was moronic. It may be that your partner was indulging in a time-honoured practice of attempting to deflect balme from him to you, by castigating you for a questionable but not clearly-wrong (and possibly 'right') call instead of confessing that he made a stupid, idiotic bid. I mean...a weak suit, weak hand, made worse by a stiff in your suit (even tho it's the King) and imploded by the revelation that his spade holding is a negative offensive value...not merely worthless, but actually a negative, since the opps, bidding without these cards, will sometimes hold compensating side-suit values.
