well it is unclear exactly how the auction went altho I find it hard not to believe it went

1♠ (2♥) and it is now my turn.....SUPPORT WITH SUPPORT 2♠ or some equivalent is mandatory!

I would've bid 2♠ with the responder hand.

 

As opener, I would reopen with 4♣. It does not take very much to make a game here, and 3♣ is too likely to be passed.

 

As for reopening doubles, the rules are:

 

(1) You want to defend if partner has a marginal penalty pass.

(2) You can handle the various suit bids partner might try.

 

On this hand, I suspect that we will often be better off to play in a black suit when partner has a penalty pass. Sure, we might nick 2♥ a trick or two, but it's easy to imagine that not all our winners are cashing -- and we might've missed a game. This is a very offensive-oriented hand with the 6-5 shape, and I think it fails the first test above.

The opener in first seat opened 1♠ and then a 2♥ overcall.

If I have a stiff or void in their suit, and partner would have made a penalty double and I would have passed I will try to reopen double regardless of my high cards. This excludes shapes like 6-5 and hands with 7+ spades.

 

I would also not reopen double with a shape like 6-1-2-4 even if I would have sat for a penalty double from partner.

 

If I had 2 hearts, the chances that partner has a penalty X of hearts goes way down, and I would not always reopen with a double. If I had Hx of hearts especially, I would frequently pass it out. With xx of hearts I would reopen with 5233 and 52(42). If I had 6 spades and 2 hearts I would generally reopen with 2S.

 

With 3 hearts I would never reopen with a double.

I think 2 spade was clear.

 

I am no fan of a 4 club bid. Weh cannot reach 3 NT and it is not likely that we have a spade fit after this start of the bidding, (or partner is completly broke with 0 5 HCPS) so we need a good club fit to justify our 4 club bid. Too unlikely, so I would go with a simple 3 club.
