kenrexford
I found an intel commercial very funny. A man is sitting at a desk alone, behind a glass wall where someone had written some elaborate equation. He went up to the board and changed a minus sign to a plus sign and then scurried back to his seat. His friend then came into the room, glanced at the wall, and then said, "Oh, you got me!" The man started laughing hysterically, muttering, "I changed the minus sign to a plus sign." The punchline was that "our jokes are not the same as your jokes." A funny campaign, and effective I think. Sure sounds familiar, eh? Running into a friend or a stranger who doesn't play bridge, while laughing hysterically, and trying to explain to them how hysterical it was that you bid Stayman with 5-3 shape because your hand was mis-sorted and thereby made an overtrick when the opponents spurned the lead of your 3-card suit. Something like that. Great, hilarious stuff. Why doesn't anyone get it?!?!?

Rain
Yeah I keep seeing this series of intel ads on hulu. I find them rather elitist, think it's not a very smart message Intel is trying to send - (Hey look we're smarter than you, so you'd want to buy our stuff)?, although the last bit where everyone sings the Intel theme acappalla is nice. My fav one in this series is the one where they all look for the little chip during the press conference. Anyways, rant off. I actually currently think Bridge is not more complicated to watch than Poker or even WOW (arena) games, or say, baseball or american football. All are not easy to watch and really get the hang of unless for a newbie. When I force myself to watch baseball or football, all I know is cheer when the number of "our" team goes up lol. So maybe Bridge can be the same? Maybe if we make the score number appear larger and more significant, make it obvious how many tricks need to be won for a given contract, and possibly simplify the scoring system (ie, get rid of using IMP conversion in the finals of important matches, use only raw score), it'll help attract an audience. Because it doesn't really matter how esoteric squeezes are to fans. Beautiful plays are meaningful only to the student who wants to study it. for the purpose of increasing popularity to a game, all the newbie needs to know is what's a good thing to happen (winning tricks by letting Kings eat Fours, seeing score number go up). gwnn
I think they're making fun of their nerdiness. That doesn't really mean they're arrogant does it?
