gwnn
what if played in a field where people are notorious for overbidding/underbidding. would you adjust your style slightly to be more similar/less similar to the predominant style? does the form of scoring matter? this thread is not about me of course B)
Vilgan
Sounds like as long as I go with the percentage action I'm good. Might bid 6 instead of 7 if 80% of the field won't bid 6 tho.
TylerE
In a weak field..I play my game.In a strong field...I play my game. IMO deviation from partnership style is more likely to lead to disaster than an event win.
Jlall
Just play well. It might come into play if it was something specific like "this field NEVER bids slam" and you're deciding whether to bid a 70 % grand or not (obv don't) whereas if it was an overbidding field you obv would. I suppose in very close situations for me I would try to duplicate the field, but generally I would be more interested in trying to do what I thought was right. Codo
Whenever I try to play as the field, I fail. The field always surprises me, so I just try to play good.... And fail too. :)
helene_t
Ditto Roland :)Seriously, there are no fields where everybody overbid. There may be some fields where many people overbid but then there will also be lots of misbids, misdefenses and misplays so it would be pretty random. In an extremely weak field you might ignore it's matchpoints: play safe as most people didn't bid the same contract, or manage to go down even if trying to play safe. Bid vulnerable games slightly more aggressively as it may be significant that it beats 500, even if opps have no reason to bid.
