Your choice of action?

This is probably interesting only because it was MPs

[hv=d=e&v=n&s=saqt9hak62dk7cqj9]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv]

RHO deals and opens with a 3C preempt.

a. Your call? Dbl or 3NT

b. If you choose to Dbl, what do you plan to do if partner bids: 3D, 3H, 3S?

c. Is this a wtp?

Additonal info: RHO is not the kind of person who will bid 3C with a 6-card suit, so a minimum length of 7 is assured.

My first reaction was to bid 3NT, but thinking about it a little longer I think double is better. If partner has a singleton club, 4M is much more likely to be right. If partner has a doubleton club (or singleton honor) then 3NT is probably better but 4M may still be ok.

If partner bids 3D then I would bid 3NT. If partner doesn't have a 4-card major then he's quite unlikely to have a stiff club. With a 4-card major he wouldn't pass 3NT after a double.

My first reaction was 3NT, as I wrote my firts post, I was thinking,

that double had a lot going for it, but I stayed with my first vote.

Now my third wave of thinking: If one is forcing to game, than 3NT

will be the bid, that will right side the contract more often than X,

since over 3NT has still the option to bid Stayman and Transfer.

With kind regards

Marlowe

PS: Stay tuned, there may be 4th wave coming ...

At the table, I considered dbl and 3NT but finally chose 3NT. I was playing with a pick-up partner and I was not sure how things will pan out.

Question: If South doubles 3C, would you bid 3H or 3D with the North hand?

Are you sure, Marlowe?

3NT can be called on a wide variety of hands with a club stopper, for instance with long diamonds.

I would not like my partner to stayman over that.

3, especially at matchpoints. With so little high-card strength, I'm happy to try to get a plus score. 3 might be a horrible contract, and it might encourage him to raise when he was passing 3.

Having bid 3, I'd convert 3NT to 4.
