How do you play the void replies?

I play the void replies as follows:

5NT = EVEN ( 0 or 2 ) + void somewhere

and

6C = ODD ( 1 or 3 ) + higher suit void

My guess is that Opener is void in and

at least 5/5 in the rounded suits, something like

void

K J x x x (x)

A and/or K and perhaps another x

K J x x x

If the reply were 5NT, I could/should comfortably bid a grand.

With the 6C reply, the Ace is missing and you better stay in a small slam.

4NT is RKC for (the last suit bid). the 6 response shows an odd number of keycards with a useful void in a suit higher than (5NT would show an even number of keycards).

If you want to RKC in another suit, you should've gone slow by using 4th suit forcing.

2 keycards + a void in a suit above trumps ().

5NT: unspecified void, odd# keycards

6x: void in that suit, 2 keycards

6trumps: void in a suit above trumps, 2 keycards.

Here he should have a spade void, A, K.

Strange, normal in USA is to play 5N is even and 5x is odd, though I'm not sure why one would be better than the other.

You meant 6x is odd.

For example if Sp were trump, then after 4NT( RKC )

6C = odd + Cl void

6D.. etc.

...and I'm assuming that 1 key + void occurs more frequently than 2 keys + void

which is why 6x was selected as odd, since the void would be pinpointed more often.

I always thought 5 -> 2+void because it used the least space. With 1 and a void it might not be enough to force partner to the 6 level. I know I've responded 5 NT as 2 + void a lot more than 6 odd personally. Serious blah to using 4 NT as keycard for clubs though.. yuck ;)

Partner should have something like this:

-

KJTxx

Kxx

Kxxxx

regardless we are off the A of diamonds or K of clubs so 6NT is a fairly trivial (imo) bid.

P probably has two keycards for clubs and a diamond void. Or maybe he has one keycard. Or maybe he has a spade void. Or maybe he thought 4NT was quanti and wants play 6. Or maybe he wasn't sure what 4NT was and thought that 5 could be taken as a keycard response so he better make an unambiguous (?) natural club bid.

7 is probably on but given the confusion I would just settle for a safe 6.
