dkharty
Red/Red, matchpoints, I held: ♠9876543 ♥-- ♦AJT853 ♣-- Partner dealt and opened 1♥, RHO overcalled 2♦. Pass or some number of spades? This was the first time I have ever held a 7-6 hand, and I'm curious how others would have handled it. the hog
Whoah, what a problem! Anyway, this looks like a total misfit and I am not coming in here yet - pass!
effervesce
Pass. Looks like a misfit and you're happy if the opps play in diamonds.

andy_h
Pass. Let's not get partner excited. The horrors would start when partner will bid some number of clubs and at least our first pass will make it less encouraging.
Fluffy
pass for sure, if he had bid 2♣ maybe then another action would be possible, althou not sure wich one.
dkharty
Looks like the consensus is pass, and I probably should have done so at the table...unfortunately I had one of those "Holy Smoke!" stare-at-your-hand-in-disbelief moments at the table that stretched just a little too long, so I decided to bid 2♠ so partner wouldn't have a "double or not" dilemma in the balance seat. (He later told me he wouldn't have doubled, his shape was 1=6=1=5; he's not sure if 2♥ or 3♣ was next.) Thanks for the replies. When I get my next 7-6 hand in 2024, I'll be more prepared. Fluffy
My first 7-6 hand was very similar to this, a redouble from partner would had spotted the missfit at the 2 level, but he bid his suit, and we discovered it 3 level higher .
