655321
Pass, sorry partner! Anyway often dummy has some 13/14 count with a doubleton spade, and 2♠ maybe makes, maybe doesn't, so I don't expect to miss a huge number by passing. jdonn
I saw Joe Grue double 4♥ P P on a hand like this with the majors reversed. And it gave up 690 not vul. I'll pass here.
helene_t
Opps are not that weak, most pairs at our club are weaker IMHO. OK for BBF standards they are weak of course.

manudude03
hee hee next thing we know wayne is gonna post abt 'weak p weak opps but this is the only clubin town :(' or something (: well, it is the only club in town, but I wouldn't call Helene weak (may I just add that she's a lot better than she thinks she is). If I ever post something like that, it's going to be a Monday when I mentor (maybe torture is a better word :) ) beginners.

jdeegan
 El Paso. Remember, pard has ♠ and did not bid 2NT. This limits him to 15HCP max, and no really long suit to boot. You got how many HCP - 40 in the deck? Is this apparent misfit your hand?
manudude03
Thanks for the replies. I doubled and caught partner (Helene) with ATxx AQxxx x Qxx (I think- please correct me if I'm wrong). We ended in 4H making while at the other table, 2S got passed out (and made) for +12 imps. peachy
Thanks for the replies. I doubled and caught partner (Helene) with ATxx AQxxx x Qxx (I think- please correct me if I'm wrong). We ended in 4H making while at the other table, 2S got passed out (and made) for +12 imps. Nice. However, result from one hand does not justify doubling here, IMO. I estimate that much of the time a Dbl would give a bad score one way or another.

TylerE
I'm void in spades and still thinking about balancing? Maybe not quite WTP, but can't beleive the passes. Note that I would NOT x with majors reversed and a 2♥ opening. The difference being that partner doesn't have a cheap overcall in the other major over 2♠. Codo
I'm void in spades and still thinking about balancing? Maybe not quite WTP, but can't beleive the passes. Note that I would NOT x with majors reversed and a 2♥ opening. The difference being that partner doesn't have a cheap overcall in the other major over 2♠. Your void makes it much more likely that partner has 4+ spades. So you have three possible scenarios: 1. You play 2 Spade X. Sorry, but with one defensive trick in my hand this rates to be no success. 2. You find partner with a not too good fitting hand and play in 3 of something in a 4-4 fit. Is this better then to defend two spade? It could be. Or it could be -500. 3. You find the miracolous 4522 hand which somehow managed to reach game opposite your well fitting 8 count. This time you win a zillion imps. I guess there is a reason why the majority does not like to double with this hand.
TylerE
That's a rather pessimistic view isn't it? I expect partner to actually listen to the auction and know that I'm in passout seat. He should not sit for this X with a crappy 10 count and Hxxx of ♠. If you're seriously calling this hand an 8 count you're vastly underrating it. helene_t
The remark that opps are weak may be relevant. They would pass partner's 2♠ opening on hands on which advanced players would bid 3♠. So it's not like p is marked with five spades.
655321
TIf you're seriously calling this hand an 8 count you're vastly underrating it.In fact I was calling it a seven count. The point about doubling is that it is very likely to end the auction. I was (mistakenly, I now see) thinking that a void in trumps is not worth a full 5 points. hanp
655321 passed, why are people still discussing this hand?
gwnn
yes many years from now it will be easy to find this thread since you just put in 655321 +pass -"is ridiculous" or something along these lines.
lamford
And I thought the question was how large the PP should be for someone who doubled after a BIT by partner. Pass is the only LA.
manudude03
And I thought the question was how large the PP should be for someone who doubled after a BIT by partner. Pass is the only LA. Part of the reason I posted it was to see how far you should go with "always balance with a void". There wasn't any BIT involved. The other (related) part was that I honestly wasn't sure if I was right to double, I was scared as **** when I put the red card down lol. Jlall
655321 passed, why are people still discussing this hand? hahaha this is how I heard about the hand: Clee: What would you do with [this hand]Me: I would pass, I think it must be like 80 % to go all pass and I think thats really bad overall, obv it's good if partner bids something unless it's 3N. Clee: Yeah I would double. 5 minutes later... Me: Hah I read the thread, 655321 passed! I must be right!Clee: Yeah when I read that he passed I thought to myself I must be wrong that's why I asked you.
