Rightsiding madness

Since you did not mention anything special about the 3 bid, I will assume it is natural and forcing.

How can one bid anything other than 4?

I am not bidding 3NT just because I have Kx of hearts. And I am not suppressing KQTx in support for partner's suit. For all that I know, he could have aces in both off-suits.

It might be true that 3NT from my side is the last making game (it could also be true that it will go down 9 tricks on a club lead through partner's Kx of clubs and a heart back).

I am not going to mastermind the hand. I raise diamonds.

AT98xx Kx KQTx x, r/w imps

1 (2) 3 (3)

?

Calls to consider: 3, 3NT, 4,4,5

3 probably shows 6+ since we didn't pass but am I better off showing a fit

3NT I am the one with a stopper but am playing partner for a stopper

4 this has to be a cuebid in view of partner's call and LHO's initial 2 call

4 support w/support?

5 the best way not to miss game is to bid it

My order of preference is 4>3>5>3NT>4

Wow what are all these 4 bids, lol? Am I not allowed to have clubs? If I rebid 3 is partner not allowed to have clubs? Couldn't diamonds (just on the auction, not knowing my actual hand) be their minor?

Well, yeah. That's why I'm tending to think that 4 should be the choice bid. I mean, 4 is the one bid that cannot be natural, unless the opponents are drunk and very young.

And, as I always say, "game before slam."

Sure, diamonds could be their minor. But, as I said in my first post, I assumed that the 3 bid was natural and forcing since you did not say anything to the contrary. My holding of KQTx and partner's presumably natural bid make it extremely unlikely (but not impossible) that diamonds is their suit.

Besides, if partner intended his 3 bid as showing spade support, I will find out about it soon.

If he meant it as something entirely different we may be in a whole lot of trouble.

but why would you want to bid it on the 4 level if was a suit you could always pass 3

What is this, bizarro world? 2 shows hearts and either minor. Partner bid a natural 3. It's entirely possible LHO and partner both have diamonds!

Yes from our hand we can see that's not the case this time, but that has nothing to do with what the bids mean. Can partner see our hand or something?

I can have 5 clubs on this auction. Partner can have 5 clubs on this auction. The opponents have not promised clubs. So how can a club bid by either one of us not be natural?

In relation to another thread I saw today, what would 5 show? Or does it just mean you are trying to put it to the opponents? (I bid it for that reason)

5 = good trumps, but otherwise not very interested in slam. I don't like it for the latter reason, we could easily have slam (and will get there if partner cues 4 over 4).
