They lead 5 which could be... anything !

How would you approach the play and why ?

Win the heart Ace and attack clubs immediately, from dummy.

That said, what's the best line in clubs?

I'm sure there is some mathematical line that makes sense, but I'm thinking psychology.

If I play the King, no one gets duped about anything. I might smother the Queen to my right and have a good finesse of the 9 later.

If I play the Jack, I might smother a stiff 10 somewhere. I might also get RHO to duck the Queen and then drop it later, which would be funny. Or, I might get RHO to pop Ace, which might also be funny.

If I play small, nothing really funny happens.

So, going funny rather than odds, I'll play the Jack. Maybe somehow this also is the odds play for some reason. I have no clue nor desire at the table to work that one out.

smothering either the q or the T will work with the K and you still can lead up to the J

Any club from dummy risks losing to a particular singleton honour on the left. K loses to singleton ace.

As Justin says, it's completely safe to cross to K and lead a club towards dummy. If we can hold our club losers to two, they can't do us any damage by continuing diamonds.

Having led a club spot from hand, we should run it, in case LHO has AQ10x.
