gwnn
AQxxQxA9xxxKx is this hand 1n or 1d? idk. when is this hand a 1d and when is it 1n? edited in an attempt for clarity
pooltuna
AQxxQxA9xxxKx is this 1n or 1d? idk. when is it 1d and when is it 1n? scattered strength with a range that is hard to describe so 1NT works the best IMO. When is it 1♦? When you can tolerate a reverse something like AKxxxxAKQxxxx
gwnn
I meant to ask when would you open this hand 1♦ and when would you open the same hand 1NT, i.e. position, vulnerability, etc. Sorry I wasn't clearer.
jdonn
1NT always. Not close. It's such an advantage to open 1NT on this hand if the other table opens 1♦, I bet it's a huge imp and matchpoint gainer.
Phil
Normally with this pattern I like 1♦ but there are so many reasons to declare NT here. Naturally when I bid like this pard will have a 6-7 count and 4 spades
ArtK78
I prefer 1♦ at IMPs and 1NT at matchpoints. At IMPs, you want to bring diamonds into the picture as a possible trump suit. 5♦ may be superior to 3NT at IMPs, and you may be able to find 6♦ on some occasions. maggieb
Don't look for excuses to not open 1N.
gnasher
I don't think there are any 5422 hands where the vulnerability, position, or form of scoring affects my decision between 1NT and 1♦. There are probably some 6322 types that I'd open 1NT in 3rd but not in 1st.
655321
1NT always for me too.
Codo
I like 1 NT to be pure more then nearly anybody else here, but this is a 100 % 1 NT opening as long as my NT range is about 15-17.
P_Marlowe
1D. With kind regardsMarlowe
mike777
AQxxQxA9xxxKx is this hand 1n or 1d? idk. when is this hand a 1d and when is it 1n? edited in an attempt for clarity easy 1nt for me but then I would open very often 1nt with 4=2=5=2 shape. 14+ hcp with this shape cause me too many issues if I do not show a nt type hand. helene_t
I consider this a bellow-medium 15 count so if I open 1♦ I am happy to pass a 1NT response from p, or any weak bid by p after 1♦-1♥-1♠. Make it just a tad better and I would always open 1NT to avoid that issue. As it is I would normally open 1NT, but 1♦ in 2nd seat r/r and possibly in a few similar situations. aguahombre
Size and Shape (sort of)=1NT. But it is close, IMHO. No really uncomfortable rebid problems if I open 1D, just have one extra hCP. Would not even discuss this with a partner who chose 1D.
