gwnn
xxKTxxKJTxxxx 1st seat favorable imps. anyway suppose you decided you really want to psyche. please don't post how it's the wrong place to do it, or that repetitive psyches are harmful to the moral values of the game, we don't care, this is a fun thread, don't ruin it. Which one would you use? at the table there was no 2D weak both majors available but you may use it. edit: forgot about the 10 of d. edit 2: 1NT would be 14-16, 2NT would be 20-21 edit 3: opps are experts, they play multi-landy against 1NT and takeout doubles against natural openings. Finch
(i) I can't answer without knowing the opponents, and their methods, and their ability, and their general style. (I have voted, however) (ii) I'm less keen on psyching when I have a perfectly good 4C opening in front of me, but that's a different matter. helene_t
Maybe 1NT is best as I can pass 2♣ and 2♦, and if I pass 2♥ it may even psyche opps out of a good heart contract. I voted 1♠ on the theory that 1NT is dangerous because p will double anything opps bid, but thinking more about it 1NT or 2NT is probably better. Phil
Since I'm being asked to consider this.... 1N probably has the most appeal. If 3N gets doubled, then I have an easy escape. 4M probably won't get doubled, since partner should have 6. 1M is safer than 2M and spades are safer than hearts since I don't need to worry about correcting 4 to 5. 2♦ for both majors feels kind of loco to me. 2N is nuts and dangerous. Partner will frequently have a hand good enough to go high, and we are creating a disaster.
kfay
I'd never psyche 2NT here, although you've got a good hand for that sort of action it's just not the right time nor place. If I open 1M it will go 4M by partner, or whatever, and now we're going to get sawed off no matter where we go. My best bet for wrecking havoc and doing minimal harm to my side lies in 1NT I think. Although maybe I could preempt in a major also. This is something I've never done.
Fluffy
2NT is fine in third position where partner cannot id 6NT next.

Jlall
Every psyche is dumb with this hand, I can think of no conditions where I would feel compelled to psyche with this. If I wanted to swing hard and do something really aggressive I would bid 5C, not sure if you would consider that a psyche. To answer your question, 1N seems like the least stupid psyche I guess. MFA
Always wanted to try a 2NT psych. Maybe this is the time for it, since it seems unlikely that partner will not check back for majors, when I'm 1-1. So a 6NT response would be very unlucky. Maybe this is the time for it, since it seems unlikely that partner will not check back for majors, when I'm 1-1. So a 6NT response would be very unlucky. If you open 2NT planning to pass 3♣, you've gained little over simply opening 3♣. I used to psyche 2NT quite a lot. I found that the best hands for this are balanced hands, where you have a fair chance of just being raised to game, with each opponent having a decent hand but thinking his partner has nothing. Edit: When I referred to the "best" hands for this psyche, that doesn't mean that there are any good hands for it.
the hog
This hand and this position is not conducive to a psyche.Maybe pass is the best psyche.
helene_t
What about 2♦ (natural)? Maybe not gross enough a deviation to count as a psyche. But it is relatively safe and could cause declarer to misplay.
jdonn
If you're forcing me to psych, I don't like any level of notrump since I'm really really screwed over transfers to spades where I have neither major. I guess I'd go with 1♣ (you have an other option, yay!)
gwnn
i should have specified that clubs at any level are not considered to be psyches for the purposes of this thread
Free
If you really really reeeeeaaaaaalllllllly force me to psych, I'd just pass and bid normal the 2nd round...

manudude03
If I was forced to psyche, I'd bid 3N. I may also fear that the CC would have to change.
