Fluffy
I would just pass and pusnnish partner for reopening later
mich-b
Pass. Not enough values, not enough shape.
dellache
Pass !!Seriously my only concern is to anticipate : - what will I bid if pard reopens with 3♦ ?- what's my lead if pard says nothing ?
andy_h
X over 1♠ but pass over 2♠. AK is a dangerous sign and I'd feel very uncomfortable if partner insists on diamonds (had we doubled).

P_Marlowe
I may pass, or overcall 3H. I am pretty sure my regular p would overcall. Depends on the sun, the moon and on what do I know. With kind regardsMarlowe
nigel_k
I overcall more than most people in this situation but I would pass this one. The case for overcalling light(ish) is that when they raise spades, partner can support hearts. But here you don't really want that as your values are so defensive. 3♥ would be minimum but ok if you had xx AK109x xx AJxx.
paulg
My partner passed, which seems reasonable to me.
Jlall
Pass and it's not close, but obviously if you don't pass then you X.
gnasher
If you pass, it goes 2♠ pass 4♠ dbl passNow what?
Fluffy
4NT to bid 5♥ over 5♣ but 6♥ over 5♦
655321
I would just bid 5♥. Most of our points seem to be useless for partner.

dellache
If you pass, it goes 2♠ pass 4♠ dbl passNow what?1. My first reaction is to pass. 60% of my points are in their suit. Likely 800, +/-300. 2. What is the most probable shape of CHO ? I'd say 1354. The chances of a 9+ card fit seem to be low. My hand is still ugly. What will I do with AK♠ in any contract ?If I can make a slam in our best suit (Best suit ? not so easy to determine at the 5 level), I expect to butcher them in 4♠. 3. My second reaction is to have a look at dummy : I Pass and lead a Spade.
hatchett
I pass the first time and second time. I don't have 100% security at the 5 level, and expect 4♠ to be 300 minimum and 500 quite likely.
655321
Changed my mind, now I pass too. :)
gwnn
good thing I didnt copy 655's answer like I always do. Now pass, obviously.

Jlall
With so many spade values I take the cash at imps.
Codo
I guess you passed and missed the slam? At least the majority does and so will I take my money in 4 SpadeX .
gnasher
I guess you passed and missed the slam? Why should you suppose that? When I post a problem it's usually because I think it interesting, or because somebody did something that I found surprising. When this occurred in the England Premier League, at least two players out of eight did something other than pass followed by pass. Codo
I guessed and it was just a guess.... no hidden meaning inclueded.
gnasher
Partner had x Q8x AK8xxx AQ8, and defending 4♠x gets you 500. The full hand is here: http://www.ebu.co.uk/events/?eventid=12&round=11&board=1 Fewer than half of the pairs who held these hands managed a plus score (though I expect that in some cases partner overcalled 5♦ rather than doubling 4♠).
