You hold Q9 Axx - AKQJxxxx all red at IMPs in a strong team game.

Your RHO opens 1 (2/1) in first seat. What is your plan?

If you double, partner will bid 2 passed to you.

If you bid 2, LHO and partner will pass and RHO will balance 2.

Not my style to double with a single suiter - especially when I have 12 cards.

2 then 2.

I thought we had 8 clubs. I always just count the other cards when I have a 1 suiter and subtract from 13 :)

My answer is assuming 2308

edit: Now it is 2308 and 2308 is in the title also... heh

Eight clubs. The topic had it correct; opening post I did not count the x's accurately.

For those who start with 2, after RHO's 2 and your next call, LHO will bid 4 passed back to you (unless you bid 5 I suppose). Are you balancing over this?

3 for me. If partner has the spade King, and if the opponents can cash four clubs and the spade Ace for a set, I'll say, "Oh, poo."

More likely, partner just bids 4.

But, the upside is that I feel pretty good at 4 or higher, and the opponents probably feel really bad. Plus, when they overcompete in spades or diamonds, they will mis-play spades.

I'm passing, but that's pretty ugly.

2 then I though I'd double when I held 7 clubs, but with 8 it is too much.

I though about bidding 2, if raise I will know at least he ahs something usefull. But it might be too late to rectify without creating a mess.

All in all I think 2 is the only reasonable bid at second turn.

Should I fold at 4. Oh well maybe I should, but I a not going to do so. 5.
