triplepeel
the BBO program shows how many players are entered for each robot tournament, but this seems to be missing from the web client (or am I missing something). It seems you have to click "join" for each tournament separately to see the entrant numbers.BTW personally I would prefer to see just the number of players already entered, not the names & masterpoints - it seems to discourage players when they see a few strong players. helene_t
I think there is no harm in showing the names of the players entered. Sometimes if one of my friends is entered I want to enter as well to kick his/her ass.
triplepeel
when a robot race reaches a critical mass, say 20-25 entrants, there is often an avalanche of entries. I wonder if it would be possible for regular robot players to sign up to get an alert when a tournament is getting to a good number of entrants. I'm sure we would start to get some 49's
croquetfan
the original question is unanswered. in the old software, when you hover the mouse over the tournament, you see the number of players already entered, but this does not happen with the web client: you have to click "join" for each tourney
fred
One big difference between the web-client and the Windows client is that the Windows client is always aware of the entire state of BBO while the web-client is not. This was a critically important shift for us to make in terms of system performance and stability as the number of people using BBO continues to grow. So the reason that the web-client does not display this information is because it does not "know" this information. We could give it a snapshot of the number of people registered to play in each tournament when the list of tournaments is requested (and possibly refresh this number every 30 secodns or so), but making this update in real time (the way it does in the Windows client) is probably not going to happen - that is the sort of thing we need to get away from in order to ensure that our servers do not grind to a halt. Still, I see how this information could be useful. I will discuss with Uday the concept of displaying it even if is not realistic to hope that it will be updated in real time. I'm sure we would start to get some 49'sIf too many people were to use this feature, there might not be enough people joining normally, so it would never get to the level to alert them (unless the players who sign up for alerts are counted in the entrants). And the players who don't know about the feature would look at the table, and think that there aren't many people signed up, so they might not join.
