Jlall
This hand is too good to just bid 4H imo even though it would be good tactically (they may have a good save in 5C). I would start with 2C with so much slam potential.
inquiry
Partner will not cooperate if we simply insist on hearts (we are too good for 1H, 2H, 3H, or 4H directly over double), so we need to establish game force, the set hearts and then hope to get a good slam try into the picture. Cue-bid 2@C, rebid hearts great if you can do so to the three level...something like...(as long as the jump doesn't show heart shortness and fit for parnter other suit). 1C-x-p-2Cp - 2D-p-3H
aguahombre
Sorry, didn't mean to make it seem as if I was going to piecemeal this like a shaggy dog story. I meant not only what initial action, but what plan vs expected action by partner if you choose 2C to start.

Bid 3♥ over 2♦, 3♥ over 2♠, and something crazy over 2♥ :)

aguahombre
this hand was given to me. I could not visualize how the auction would proceed after 2C, and got a headache trying to figure out what doubler would do with various distributions in the t/o double sphere. I was not convinced my diamond stiff was relevent. but, at least if I show it, pard will not assume club shortness. As pointed out, 1H, 2H, 3H, and 4H don't do the job. So, I suggested that 5H :), might suggest this situation and would probably not go down, unless the double really sucked.
cherdanno
I would rather bid 4♥ than 5♥. We are down on the 5-level opposite many normal doubles like Axxx Jxx KQxx Kx.
dellache
Annoying hand : look for slam and take the risk of 2♣ (3♣) Bid (5♣) ?I think I would. Let's bid 2♣, and see how it develops.
gnasher
Bid 3♥ over 2♦, 3♥ over 2♠, and something crazy over 2♥ :) 4D over 2H.So over 2♦ a jump to 3♥ shows a strong one-suiter, but over 2♥ a jump to 4♦ is a splinter? I'm not disagreeing, but I'm not sure that I'd be confident that that's what it meant. I know it says "no pet gadgets", but I'm going to ignore that. Frances uses a jump cue-bid of 3♣ to show a single-suited slam try. That would work well here.
aguahombre
interesting...the one who gave me the problem did not have that gadget, but it does not mean the gadget isn't a good one. And then, how does one follow up to show seven solid, and needing everything else? By the way, Cherdanno...your example hand doesn't make 4 hearts either, losing two spades and two bullets.
