1eyedjack
Regularly a situation arises in which one player has run into so bad a connection that his name permanently displays a red spot (until he logs out and logs back in again, if possible). In many of these situations the most practical solution is for one of the remaining players to issue a claim, even though he may not be sure of the number of tricks available. Typically he would issue a claim for the maximum, which would be rejected followed by a counter claim, so that all parties can then see all hands, and an equitable agreement reached on the actual number of tricks (if players cannot agree in these strained circumstances then the hand may have to be abandoned). I think these comments are addressed more to the main playing area than to tourneys, where the TD can be called and can then do what he likes. The problem with the software (hence this post in this part of the forum) is that it is not possible for a claim to be accepted (and hand completed and scored up in accordance with the claim) while the red spot persists. I can see that this is not an easy problem to overcome: If you deny RedSpot an opportunity to contribute to acceptance/rejection of the claim he may be justifiably annoyed if his redspot was in fact only momentary. I can see a way around this by having further options available after a claim is issued. ie, click on a player's name whilst a claim is in progress, and if at the time you click on it there is a red spot on his name, then he his acceptance of the claim is recorded. Perhaps one of the more irritating features of the current arrangement is that even though dummy cannot accept or reject a claim (which I don't like but that is subject to another thread), the claim cannot be processed under existing software while Dummy (and Dummy alone) has a red spot on his name, even though all other parties have agreed to the claim. That, at least, needs to change I think.
