maggieb
Peggy showed me an interesting play problem at the club yesterday. [hv=d=s&v=n&n=s8hk632dkq973cq54&s=skt653hqj8d85ca83]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv]P - (P) - 1♦ - (1♠)2N - AP Do you agree with 2NT? Probably not, but anyway, you have to play it now on the ♠Q lead while RHO follows with the ♠2 (UDCA). Continuations: If you win and play a diamond, the ♦K will hold as RHO plays the ♦T. If you play a heart back to your ♥Q, that will also hold. If you duck at T1, LHO will continue with the ♠7 and RHO will win the ♠A and switch to a low heart, and your ♥Q out of hand holds. Edit: Added more information.
billw55
Double finesse in diamonds and pray for an entry? Anyway I'm not sure I would open the north hand even in third seat. And 2NT is ... optimistic.

Yes 2NT is a wonderful choice. Why would I want to bid something that actually describes my holding (1NT) when I can overbid and simultaneously punish partner for making a probably systemic 3rd seat opening. Now that the rant is off my chest I duck the ♠Q
phil_20686
doesnt feel right to me to duck the spade, cant see any 5-2 spade break where it prevents them gainiang 3 spade tricks if rho has an entry. Its worse if they are 6-1 as he can just switch and you never come to a spade switch. I'll win and play a diamond to the king, assuming this holds ill come back with a heartr to the Q. No real plan but am aware of many options.
Phil
Without getting too deep into continuations, I will duck the lead in tempo to the best of my ability, but I would like to try to get a read on RHO if RHO plays a discouraging spade. With AJ97x of spades or AJ97xx, I'm not sure RHO will discourage anyway. In practice, LHO will not find the club shift with Qx of spades even when its right unless RHO wiggles a lot at T1. Also, LHO doesnt have an automatic lead of the black mariah of partner's suit in an auction like this, so I think Qx is likely. If I do get the continuation, RHO wins and is sort of endplayed. My general approach is to win the return and play diamonds to dummy and hearts toward hand. I can't place too many cards here. Our 2N preempted LHO with ♠Q + two other cards and RHO simply needs the spade suit and another card for the overcall.
Fluffy
♠K+♦K+♥Q+♦Q, what next?
gnasher
I will duck the lead ... If I do get the continuation, RHO wins and is sort of endplayed. If so, RHO probably shouldn't win it.
