ps-ps-2-??[/hv]

The options look to be X, 2NT, & 3. Given that the first 2 passed I suspect 2NT is more palatable but I still hate it with a stiff x, 3 is a weaker call in my opinion so I will settle for X and rebid 3 over 3.

So, your plan is to double, and then bid a new suit in a misfit auction opposite a passed hand? Even if you are playing Lebensohl, and 3 shows some values, you're in real danger of getting severely overboard. (BTW, if you are playing Lebensohl, what's your plan over 2NT?)

I think that the immediate 2NT overcall is a hell of a lot better than X.

I would double since the hand looks suit oriented and I feel anything else risks missing hearts too much. Richard is right bidding 3 next is an overbid, but only a small one so I feel the advantages to double still outweigh the disadvantages.

Yeah X and 3D.

Richard, I think if you double and partner bids 3C showing values, a 3D bid doesn't show 18+ or whatever like usual.

There are many 2452 15 counts or whatever that I would X planning to bid 3C over leb, but bidding 3D over 3C.

It's definitely an overbid over a 2N leb bid from partner though.

I guess I am showing my age, but I would just overcall 3.

3 is far from a weak action. If it is an underbid, it is a slight underbid.

Double has the advantage of getting hearts into the picture, but at a cost of having to bid 3 if partner bids 3. And if partner bids 2NT Lebensohl, are you really going to bid 3 when partner is likely to pass? 3 over 2NT is a significant overbid.

3 is my choice.

The appeal of dble is to try and bring H into the window, the downside we have no C and might be making a problem. If we choose to o/c 2NT I doubt we are going to ever harm our chances of finding a H fit. The over call in D does not rule out H either but could place partner in a bad way should they have Jxxx in H and 3D where trying for a NT game would be a preference. I feel the 2NT over-call gives you the most room.

OMG, I am a senior too and bid 3.

How likely is it that partner will bid anything but clubs? 20%?

The combination of all bids but clubs? Over 50% I bet. Remember if he has hearts with longer clubs, or a spade stopper with clubs, there is a good chance he won't bid clubs. Also remember if he responds 3 we have enough to bid 3 anyway due to lebensohl.
