fred Posted October 6, 2009 Report Share Posted October 6, 2009 If this actually works for our web-client (a fairly big if in my view), I don't think it will be a good solution due to the interface design of the web-client and the limited amount of space available on an iPhone screen. When the time comes for us to work on a client for mobile phones that allows play on BBO, it will be necessary for us to do some serious thinking about how to make this software usable on a very small screen. It is good to know that we might be able to use Flash to develop such a program (though this does not necessarily mean that we will want to use Flash for this purpose). I'd think Ajax would be the way to go. Multiple system support may have been low priority back when BBOWin was originally developed, hopefully this will not be the case when the mobile client development starts. Note that the mobile vugraph-watching application (www.bridgebase.com/mobile) was written in Javascript for this reason. Is this something you will be working on, or is it up to Apple, or some other developer?Unless Apple's (risky to point of being idiotic in my view) policies result in the iPhone and iPad eventually going the way of the Mac (superior platform with tiny market share), I think it is likely that there will eventually be a way for people to play on BBO through iPads (and iPhones). Unless (perhaps) if Apple's gamble actually pays off, leaving them in a dominant position in the mobile phone and tablet markets in a few years, I very much doubt that the BBO solution for iPhone/iPad will take the form of an Apple-only "app" that BBO develops. It is quite possible that we will develop a BBO client intended for mobile devices that does not depend on Flash, but if we do I expect it will be designed to run inside a web-browser (ie it won't be an "app"). The above reflects my own personal guesses and opinions and should not be interpreted to necessarily reflect any "official BBO policy". Sorry, but I don't want to get into a debate about the wisdom (or lack thereof) of Apple's policies or whether they rate to end up looking brilliant or suicidal after this all gets played out. Two things are missing in the interface:- "other room" button- "scorecard" function and button There is plenty of room for adding more (prev hand, next hand, ...) mrdct Posted July 5, 2010 Report Share Posted July 5, 2010 I've not tried the app you are referring to, but I've tried iBridgeBaron Lite (which is free) and that interface is quite playable for example hands against bots, but with a live partner and opponents I think it's going to be very hard to fit an alert button in and be able to ask questions. Is it worth the 5 bucks? The screen shots look ok.... But for your iphone get "unblock me" (game app) to play when you want to waste time and save your bridge for when you can get on the BBO. That game is awesome. BTW, the app is 4.99 but there is a 20 fee (forget if it is yearly or semi-yearly)... they are not charging the fee initially but you see an "expiration date" on one of the screen shots for a player. mrdct Posted July 5, 2010 Report Share Posted July 5, 2010 The screenshots do look quite good, but whilst I do watch quite a lot of vugraph on my iPhone, I can't really see myself playing bridge on it for more than a few hands for novelty value so $5 upfront and a recurring $20 every six or twelve months is beyond my price-point. That being said, if there was an app with a playable interface to BBO I'd probably be willing to part with a few bucks to always have a live game available in my pocket if I'm in the mood - particularly if it gave me a better vugraph interface (the main deficiency of which is the inability to see the scoresheet). pigpenz Posted July 5, 2010 Report Share Posted July 5, 2010 I have been using the app Jump Desktop for use BBO on my wifes IPad and Itouch.It works basically the same as MSTSC( MS Terminal Server Client). You use your Apple device to logon to your computer after enabling remote access on it. Its sort of clunky at this point, but eventually when you can also use a bluetooth mouse along with a blue tooth keyboard it will turn you Ipad into a laptop sort of. At this time i wouldnt recomment using it in a pay game as its way to easy to lose control of the mouse as its still using touch screen.
