andrei
IMP, unfav ♠KJ5432♥KT73♦93♣T P - P - ?? Does it matter if opps are vulnerable too?
TylerE
2♠ looks utterly normal, and I open lighter than most in 3rd seat.
andy_h
3rd seat unfavourable with these lousy spots? I open light in 3rd seat too so 1♠ is utterly normal for me.
pooltuna
if both vul I would bid 2♠. At these colors you will probably survive 2♠ but why tempt the opponents.
TylerE
The reason I dislike 1♠, is that if the auction goes p-p-1♠-p-1NT-p-? I want to rebid 2♠, but that should show a better hand than this if you want to ever be able to bid constructively over a 3rd seat open. jdonn
I think 2♠ is normal in 3rd seat. Pls don't double me...
Phil
2♠. I'm not particularly fond of it at r/w and with 4 hearts, but the hand does have some nice playing strength. I've had mixed results with hands like this, but I agree with Tyler that 1♠...1N...2♠ shows a better hand (but doesn't promise a full opener either). neilkaz
Another 2♠ bidder but if you reverse the pointed suits, I clearly prefer passing to 2♦ as 2♦ doesn't preempt enough and won't be game if I get X'd and luck into a make. awm
1♠ for me. I plan to rebid 2♥ over 1NT from partner. Several reasons: (1) Safer than an unfavorable 2♠ opening on a bad suit. (2) We can get to hearts if it's right.(3) The very light one-level opening can give the opponents more trouble than the weak two.
gwnn
I 1♠ now but 2♠ with opps vulnerable. I don't like either action but I hate pass more.
nigel_k
2♠. Pass is the second choice but not close. Bidding again (eg over partner's 1NT) should show a full opening bid otherwise it is just too hard to bid constructively.

Bidding again (eg over partner's 1NT) should show a full opening bid otherwise it is just too hard to bid constructively. I agree, you have to let all the rebids but pass show at least very nearly a full opener. It's easy to say partner will respond 1NT, you will bid 2♥, and all is sweetness and light. But what do you do after 1♠ (2♥) 3♣ (P or X) or 1♠ (1NT) X (XX) or 1♠ 1NT2♥ 2NT etc etc. I don't think opening 1♠ is safer at all unless partner is in on it, and in this case I find it too difficult to let partner in on it. I am in Josh's and Nigel's camp on this one. I might stretch a HCP or so with the rebid, but nothing close to as much as is required here to rebid after 1♠-1NT Different strokes for different folks...and I still will chance 2♠ for it's preemption.
