vuroth
A little backstory. I taught a few friends how to play bridge back in high school. A couple of them have since moved out west, but Sunday evenings we usually sit down on BBO to play bridge, and chat. It's a very social game, and a great way for us to stay connected. We generally rotate between rubber and IMPs scoring. The guys prefer the IMPs scoring, but the ladies prefer rubber scoring. After a summer hiatus, our game resumed this weekend. The windows clients we used to use by and large did not work, so 3 of us had to switch to the browser client. No problem. 2 questions, though: 1. When I tried starting a rubber bridge game with the old client, nobody on a browser client could join the game. Is this true for all browser/client games, or is it just for rubber games? 2. Since the browser client doesn't seem to offer rubber bridge, is rubber going the way of the dodo on BBO? Right now, my plan is to introduce them to total points next Sunday, and hope the ladies like it. If rubber bridge isn't popular enough to continue to support, I'll be sad, but I won't complain. I'm far too grateful to BBO for helping keep us connected to complain about progress. Cheers, and thanks. V
fred
Currently the web-client does not support rubber bridge. Eventually we will do something about this, but I am not in a position to predict when this might happen. Sorry for the inconvenience. vuroth
No worries. I'll let the ladies know that it will be back someday. Thanks! V
Tola18
One extra, big advantage with the rubber bridge is you can play there with beginners and so on, not destroying the overall results for all others. These folks I saw playing there, are such. Taven
Somewhere between the two is "Chicago" 4 score deal. Has the relaxed flavor Rubber bridge while not as intimidating as say Duplicate type running scores. One of the enjoyable ways to circulate players and something my wife & I enjoy Sunday evening (slow night) out at the Sacramento Bridge Center. Pertinax
I will vote for Rubber Bridge to be added to the web client. Rubber Bridge is fun and less competitive and less about sacrificing than Duplicate. These days card games are mostly played on computers it would be a shame if the original form of the game disappeared because it is offered anywhere. And if it is can the scoring be modified so you have a subtotal for the current rubber and then a total. At the moment the Windows client only keeps an overall total. As a relative beginner at the game, I do not like the pressure of IMP duplicate. I'll play duplicate, but I definitely like the option to just sit down for a friendly game. When was the rubber bridge version (option) removed?
barmar
When was the rubber bridge version (option) removed? It wasn't removed. The download version still has it, the web version never had it in the first place.
cjmurchie
I can play rubber bridge on the old BBO but not on the new website. I'd like to play on the new site but if it doesn't work trust me I'll continue to play where I can play rubber or try to find a new website. madopra
Google Bridge Base and Download Bridge Base new version 5.2.6. and you can play Rubber Bridge by opening a table and click Rubber. I must admit I had to ask my computer man to do it for me. He just hit the keyboard..... and there it was. Hope playing with you.
