What to open?

I usually open 2♠ on this sort of hand.

a) open 2S, planning to bid clubs next (my parne likes to do this)

B) open 4S

PS: It is a good idea to make up your mind in general, what you do

with weak distributional two-suiters, if you are first / second to open.

Option a) seems to me to be get the worst of both worlds : It misdescribes the hand and risks playing 2♠ when cold for 4♠ , or 5♣, or 6♣, and at the same time leaves room for opps to judge their actions.

The plan "to bid ♣ later" may often not work, for example if the auction proceeds 2♠-3♥-Pass- 4♥. Obviosly bidding 5♣ now has some disadvantages.

 

I would suggest selecting between :

a. Pass - planning to bid agressively later, and getting both suits into the picture.

(probably the "normal" choice).

b. Open 4♠, hoping that it is either a good contract, or that opps will bid too much.

it is a matter of personal taste.

At favourable I'd be tempted with 4♠ but since we're w/w I'll go with 3. Really dislike pass when I can get my good suit in on the first go and let the opponents guess at the 4 level.

4♠. Pard will have no idea what's important to raise 2 or 3. Plus, you'll have an achy feeling if they bid 4♥.

4♠. I am not generally opposed to opening at the 2-level with 65 or 66 hands, planning to bid again, but here we would probably have to bid 5♣ over 4♥, bypassing our most likely par contract in 4♠.

4♠ for me ..this sure looks like a freakish and preemptive hand. Lets deprive the opps of a routine auction.

Pass can be a constructive bid and help move the auction forward later on. Why is the question always - what would you bid and not what would you do?
