Unusual balancing situation

The opponents appear to have 10+ hearts, or partner doesn't have much strength. If the latter it doesn't seem we have a fit anywhere and if the former, partner can be 4-3-x-x or 3-2-x-x etc. I don't think 2 is that bad but if the opponents do indeed have 10 hearts between them I'm not even sure if I can defeat 4 nor do I know if we'll have a good sac if partner is 3-2-x-x or a bad one if 4-3-x-x. I'm going to pass and defend.

Pass.

Partner could have something like xx Qxx Qxxxx Kxx and we make 5 or maybe 3NT. But it's more likely they can outbid us in hearts. Of course if LHO has psyched and partner has a trap pass this could be a spectacular failure. If the vulnerability and opponent made psyching a decent possibility I might try 2.

Does playing with and against gib change anything? That's where I got it.

Uh yes, because partner might have 5-card support and a singleton?

I would still pass though, especially as 2 is probably badly defined (i.e., as showing diamonds, not implying longer clubs).

I don't think gib will have that but maybe I'm wrong? More that he would have some hands with 5 or 6 hearts and pass where I think doubling (if not bidding) is automatic.

Anyway I bid 2 (would pass 100% in real life), lho gib made a rather poor 2 bid on a mediocre 5422 hand, and partner was 2632 with KJT8xx of hearts and almost nothing else, so they were in trouble no matter what. They escaped relatively unscathed when rho gib went back to 2 on his 2344 and they went down 2 undoubled.
