gwnn
p-p-1♥-x? leaving aside your first decision to pass (it wasn't me! really it wasn't me), what do you do with 7xxxxAQJ98xJx ? favorable imps. If you can't bear the thought of passing initially pretend you're in 4th seat.
andy_h
I bid my systemic way of showing diamonds! After this start (yes I hateee the initial pass) this seems like a non-problem. I can't even bid 3♦ now given that it is fit showing for me, so I have to unbearably watch the opponents bid out as they have free bidding space. I don't consider 7xxx worthy of mentioning given my rock solid diamonds.
the hog
This was a poor first hand pass. Now I transfer to Ds.
effervesce
2♣, xfer to diamonds. spades too shitty and your hand is all about diamonds.
andy_h
As a side note, it would've been a bit more interesting had you given the auction without the double. I would need a tad better spades to respond 1♠ than 1NT. However interchange my round suits and I would bid 1♠.
jdonn
The transfer to diamonds makes it even easier than it would have been, since I'm guaranteed the chance to bid 2♠ on the next round.

Phil
If you've agreed these intriguing new transfer responses, would XX show ♠? For some (including me), yes. For others, transfers start with 1N. There is a big advantage putting the doubler on lead. Easy 2♣. Josh: The transfer to diamonds makes it even easier than it would have been, since I'm guaranteed the chance to bid 2♠ on the next round. Even if you could, why would you want to? That seems like an overbid to me, especially with the spades on our right.

It's a huge difference when you get to show diamonds first and when you can't, you eliminate a ton of the cases spades are wrong since partner won't stay in them. Oh, and people psych on this auction too!

But 2D was something else anyway.

Oh, and people psych on this auction too! Wait, what? How do you know pard won't keep you in a 4-3? It might look like a good place to play with he is 3613 (and presumably rebid 2♥ over 2♣). The other issue is 2♠ should be a reverse, unless you have some different standards for 2♣ than I do. We aren't GFing obviously since are a PH, but I would expect a better hand than this. If RHO psyched a x, pard isn't rebidding 2♥, and LHO probably isn't passing anyway.
jdonn
LOL sorry I had the auction wrong. I take back my whole life. I thought it was 1♥ X P ?, and then when you made your comment about spades I thought it was 1♥ X 1♠ ? since that time I didn't even look again. gwnn
"standard" is 1♠ natural and f1 but I think I prefer 1♠ as transfer to nt and xx=spades. also 1♦-x-xx transfer to hearts. after 1♣-x- it's not clear to me if xx should show diamonds but obviously a penalty xx has least utility here so it should show something
