Low Level Decision

I do not dream of a penalty pass from partner, but my hand is too strong for 2 club and has the wrong shape for 3 of a minor.

So I join the X then clubs crowd.

Double. We can still have game on if partner had the awkward hand that had no spades or a heart stopper. In that case the opponents will have some spades but then we must have a fit or two in the minors. With this decent hand it'd be unlucky if this balances the opponents to a making 4 but RHO's silence over his partner's 1 should preclude that.

Does double followed by 2 show extra values, or might it just be a 2254/2155 13-count, catering for partner's penalty pass?

We had a similar thread on this subject a few years ago. I thought it showed an offshape minimum double, but I was outvoted.

excellent, unless a neg double would have denied spades--in which case game is remote. However, RHO's silence does increase the possibility of a trap by partner.

Double is still the answer. Remembering another tread, could partner have J-ninth of spades and out?

Who makes offshape takeout doubles at the 1 level on minimum hands? 1 1 p p you are doubling on a minimum 1264?!

I think the pattern might have been 5422 with a 2 overcall on your left. The question was "does pulling 2 to 2 implies extras?".

I suppose you could switch the suits to 2542 (1 overcall), or 2254, or even 4225.

I'd just bid 2 here.

If partner has a trap pass then opponents have a huge spade fit, and they will likely find it if I double. I'm much more concerned that partner has a bad hand with a lot of spades and will jump opposite my double (say JTxxxx of spades and out, which might make game opposite a good 4144 hand but is awful opposite my real hand).
