A Hand

I was playing with a buddy of mine last night in a very casual game when this deal came up:

[hv=d=w&v=b&n=sa108hkj7d9cq87652&w=sj32hq109842d74cj10&e=sq654h653dq3cak94&s=sk97hadakj108652c3]399|300|Scoring: IMP

(P)-P-(P)-3NT

All Pass[/hv]

He made 7 on the lead of the 10.

Ummm... does A Hand have A Question, or A Point? WD on the non-simultaneous double squeeze I guess.

You play the last diamond, spade from west, heart from dummy (or club I suppose), club from east. Then spade to dummy and the heart squeezes east in the black suits.

Well sure on the actual lie of the cards, but it's cold for 7 even if W has a top club on a compound.

Probably was a mistake to post it double-dummy I suppose.

Yes it's a guard squeeze then if west keeps a top club, you just have to make sure to throw the spade ten from dummy.

I don't believe this is a compound squeeze at all. That would involve two suits that are guarded by each opponent with length rather than a high card, so the spades here qualify but the clubs don't. Then when the opponent with the single threat unguards one of the double threats on the penultimate diamond, you isolate the double threat he chose to unguard and execute the squeeze.

Rats, I guess you're right.

When my friend played it he ended up pitched the Q from dummy so his 3 ended up becoming a menace against RHO's club honor, which made it look more like a compound squeeze to me.

I guess I'll just have to keep waiting... ;)

Ooops! You left the 10 the first time. LOL

He showed me all the hands the first time! ;) If he made me win the ace of hearts and play the AK of diamonds throwing the club queen from dummy at trick 3, I bet I would have worked it out from there!
