What we learn...

Yesterday two of my best students (yes, I teach bridge, believe it or not) were sitting east as me and this happened:

 

Second in hand white vs red:

♦Q

♣J98xx

 

We all opened 1♠!

 

All red, after Pass-1♣ we all overcalled 1♠ on:

 

♠AQJx

♥xx

♦QJTx

♣K9x

 

White vs red, after two passes, we all pre-empted on:

 

♠9

♥KQ9xx

♦T9xxx

♣xx

 

Here there were some differences: one of them open with a multi 2♦ (they played 4♠ +2 against him), I opened 3♥ (they 'helped me' go down 3 on 4♥x) and the other student opened 4♥ (they arrived to 6♠ making against him.

 

Now, are these actions 'normal' or am I a bad influence/teacher? Or am I good? hehehe, I hope jjbr won't tell me to go learn canasta or something.

It looks very good, specially the second one, they are on the right track.

4H on the third one is too much, I like your choice of 3H. 1S on the first one is normal. I would not overcall 1S vul on the second one but I'm sure many people would.

IMO You all bid well

1. 1♠ = 10, 1♣ = 7, _P = 5.
   
2. 1♠ = 10, _P = 9, _X = 3, 1N = 2.
   
3. 2♥ = 10, _P = 8, 3♥ = 6, 4♥ = 2.

#1 Since you are the teacher and since you opened, no wonder they

opened as well.

I would have passed, and most likely my pubils will as well, if I ever

get the chance to indoctrinate someone enough, ... after a certain time.

Unfortunately I am the black swan here, so there is a lot of bad influence

around, crushing everything I could ever achieve.

The openings is ok, as long as you dont defend it with the rule of 20.

 

#2 1S is ok, I hopefully get them to do this as well ...

 

#3 I prefer 2H, if you play multi 2D, what would 2H have been?

3H is too far away from the mainstrem auction, that you loose completly

any field protection that exists, and that is only good, if the option to the

alternative is 100% clear cut better, which 3H (compard with a weak two

openng) is certainly not.

For whats it worth: I would even rate Pass higher than 3H.
