bd71
[hv=d=n&v=n&s=shkqxxdaxxcaqjxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMPPartner opens 4S...what's your bid?[/hv] Suppose you decide to explore slam with RKC...partner bids 5S (two plus queen). Now what? It was merely a practice session for my partner and I, so I decided to go for it...not sure if I would have done the same in a tournament. For what it's worth, he had: [hv=d=n&v=n&s=shkqxxdaxxcaqjxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMPPartner opens 4S...what's your bid?[/hv] Down one on heart lead when West held A9xx of spades. But the real question is whether it's crazy here to consider slam with the trump void? Any help appreciated...
Jlall
Yes it is crazy.
jillybean
Were you in 6♠ or 6N?
aguahombre
hmm. Pard had 8 tricks when he originally showed 7 to 7/12, and you got a favorable lead and an unlucky spade break....what does that say about moving over 4s? A K Q T x x x xxJ xT 9 ....would be more like it.

Any help appreciated... assuming we are red vs white partner should be promising 8 or 9 tricks in his hand so I would just bid 6♠
pooltuna
Yes it is crazy. Am I unclear on the colors it would appear to me that we are Red while the opponents are White. For me at IMPS this hand would not qualify for a 4♠ call at these specific colors. Not that you need much, solidfy the spade suit by replacing a small ♠ with the J. Phil
I doubt I'd move over 4♠ even opposite a sound preemptor (or a NAMYATS call for that matter). It seems you are banking on two of the three of a fair trump break, a favorable lead, or a club hook. Some of these chances you cannot combine either. andy_h
I think you need quite a few good things to happen for slam to be making like good trumps and possibly a favourable lead and what not (partner can have like 8 spades to the KQJ). As I can see we are r/w I would still pass as I prefer to be at the optimum level at the 4 level.
ArtK78
I think the easiest way to answer the question as to whether it is reasonable to explore for slam is this: Would you open 4♠ holding: QJT9876543xxx If you would, then pass is clear. Quite frankly, even opposite a vul 4♠ opening, your chances for making slam are not that great. You either need for partner to have a one-loser spade suit AND the ♥A (or heart void) or an absolutely solid spade suit. Even then you are not a claim.
