Your bid?

Six hearts? Six hearts? Really? I thought I was a wild bidder. I don't mind getting to 6 on this hand, but I am not going to hang partner by up and bidding it.

Is pass forcing? I play pass here as forcing since we are vul. I am not sure I want to use that bid either. I think what I will do is bid 4NT (two suit takeout), then pull whatever minor partner bids to 5. Not exactly sure what that shows, but it has to be less than forcing pass (and less than a jump to 6. but show some slam interest (since I didn't bid 5 directly). If I bid 4NT and partner finds 6 I guess I will have to play 6 or 6. I think I go 6.

If there exists any situatiion in wich anyone could pass a forcing pass situation, it has to be one like this, partner remains unknown of our great fit, having already given a lot more info than us he will feel his only option is double, but if double is his only option.... pass should be the other option.....

Why ask when we have something to show?. I would bid 5, nobody can say if we win 6 or not, not even 5, but bidding 6 may put us in 7 with 1 or 2 off.

Well, I started bidding on meagre values - might as well obscure things a little bit more: I bid 4NT, intending to end in 5 regardless of further bidding but possibly scaring the opponents out of a good 6 or guiding them into a bad one.

Who knowzzz what the future holdzzz (qoute Godley and Creme - Consequences :) )

nothing at all wrong with 5H IF that's your final word... i don't think it's the opp's final word

Me too  . If 5 bid is from my RHO, I am forcing pass. If 5 from LHO and forcing pass from my p, then 5NT(pick up slam). If 5 from LHO and dbl from my p, I am pass.

If I'm not playing a forcing pass here, my options are an overbid of 5 and an underbid of 5. I'll go for the underbid, though if I'm in need of a swing I'd try the overbid. Playing forcing passes I'd pass and pull a double to 5, showing mild slam interest.

Seems simple to me, so where did I wrong?

5 is a 7 trial, adn 5 to play.... there should be a midle option of 6 I supose.

5 can lose a trick because the info of the void when they land in 6/7, althou I don´t think it matters much.

  • 2 weeks later...

After pd's 4 bid my hand has become gold. 2 First round controls and a void and 4 trump. My pd must have something for his 4 bid, especially if he knows my light opening style.

So I have 2 choices, either 5 as GS try or 6. I will settle for 6, I have seen my pd play :D

Over 1D-3S, would you all not bid 4H with:

Kxx/KQJ10xx/xx/Kx, or

xx/KQJ10xx/KQx/xx, or

AQ/KQJ10xx/xxx/xx, or

Kx/KQJ10xx/xxx/Kx?

None of these come close to making 6H opposite your hand (indeed, 6H might be a good save on the second one.)

Let pard in on this! Sometimes he can tell that you're short in spades from his holding and the opponent's bidding. Five hearts is quite enough. If LHO bids 5S (not likely), I will trust any decision partner makes, and if it's a forcing pass, then I'm with the rest of you in six hearts.

If it's RHO that bids 5S, then I'll make the forcing pass. This lets us get a big score when the opponent's 5S bid was a mistake.
