"Pre-Alerts (Alerts before hands are removed from the first board of a round or match segment):

Two-system methods (e.g., strong club when equal or favorable vulnerability; a natural two-over-one when not).

Systems based on very light openings or other highly aggressive methods or preempts.

Systems which may be unfamiliar to opponents, such as canapé. SuperChart and Mid-Chart methods.

Leading low from a doubleton"

I dont know the exact definition of very light openings but I think those of us that play lite openings often, know it and should put it on our cc at the very least. :)

Where the lines are between, standard, lite and very lite is a bit blurry.

"Principle of Full Disclosure

The philosophy of active ethics tells us that winners should be determined solely by skill, flair and normal playing luck. Actively ethical partnerships take pains to ensure that their opponents are fully informed.

A major tenet of active ethics is the principle of full disclosure. This means that all information available to your partnership must be made available to your opponents.

The actively ethical player will often go beyond what is technically required in volunteering information to the opponents

Social Behavior

Active ethics enables players to compete on equal terms. In addition, the actively ethical player contributes to the enjoyment of all players by continuously striving to maintain a courteous attitude toward both his opponents and his partner and by avoiding any behavior that would make anyone uncomfortable. These social attributes are VITAL to the game of bridge and duplicate bridge. "

To interject a random observation:

If you routinely open hands like 2), you have to pre-alert in ACBL-sanctioned events. According to the ACBL, you have to meet the rule of twenty - that is, the number of high card points plus the lengths of your two longest suits must equal twenty. If you would routinely open hands that don't meet this rule, you must pre-alert.

I'm not saying I agree with that interpretation - I think opening 1S on AKT98 QJT9 T98 5 is just fine - but them's the rules.

Hi welcome to the forums.
