If partner has a good double stopper such as AQx or AJ10, and diamonds run we have 8 tricks and a tempo to develop 9th or 10th. It is easy that 3NT outscores 5♦. However my partner's bid 3NT with ♠Kxx and ♦AKQxx. 3NT is a lucrative gamble, but 5♦ is probably safer. if 3♣ is only 5-9 with no other stronger option 4♠ now seems to describe pretty well.
