655321
Since there is an Italian national champion on my right I will bid 5♥.Otherwise I would have bid 5♥ instead.

aguahombre
I bid what I have. I have the five of hearts, and 6 or 7 diamonds is too much.
kenrexford
I bid what I have. I have the five of hearts, and 6 or 7 diamonds is too much. Just thinking, though. With the four of spades, is pass an option?
mcphee
After ruling out other lead directing choices I am left with 5H. 4NT not a practical option IMHO, and passing seems silly when we have zero defense. To me this dble says partner I wish to continue to compete, can you help me.

Phil
I bid what I have. I have the five of hearts, and 6 or 7 diamonds is too much. Indeed, putting down the 'contract card' in dummy is good luck. Actually, I have no idea if this is the case. I made it up a few months ago, but it seems like someone would have thought of this already, so I'm not sure :)
aguahombre
sorry, Phil, it won't be in Dummy. That gem is best kept hidden as declarer.
Phil
By the way, in a daydream, I was considering what a 4N call by pard would be instead of a 2nd double.

By the way, in a daydream, I was considering what a 4N call by pard would be instead of a 2nd double. This seems easy, just extra shape, not willing to play 4M X. The limit between X and 4NT is close

gnasher
How is 4N different than 5m then? 5m shows extra length in the minor. 4NT shows equal length, or extra length in the major if that's possible.

This is what I had considered, but with all 5-5's I think we double. 6-6 is possible, but I think the best use is to show the extra major card as you state. Hands with A's, K's and less shape X, giving partner the opportunity to convert, while hands with lots of shape but KQJxxx - QJT9xx type suits for example bid 4NT. [edit] oops misread the posts. Perhaps 4NT being more slammy and 5m as being more sacrificial.
