thjj
Today we had a bidding which we did not agree on (SAYC):1♠ 2♥4♣ ?I thought it was a strong black suited hand ca 19-21 p and my partner ment it as a cue bid with hearts as trump. She argued that with black suits she could have bid 3♣ which is still forcing (one bid). I suggested that 5♣ would have been a cue bid.Somehow I understand her point, but we had only agreed on SAYC and never discussed this situation earlier. Comments, please. Oh and welcome to the 21st century :D
kenrexford
3♣ is 100% forcing. Has been for many years. It's called a "high reverse."
gwnn
Maybe in very, very old Acol 3♣ can be non forcing. Can it?
nick_s
Maybe in very, very old Acol 3♣ can be non forcing. Can it? Nope. A new suit at 3 level is forcing in Acol.
the hog
Maybe in very, very old Acol 3♣ can be non forcing. Can it? No it is and was always forcing. It might have been non forcing in Buller.

aguahombre
and I thought I was old...."buller"? I have only been playing off and on for 50 years, but as a child a high reverse was game committed.
P_Marlowe
Hi, Most would play, that 4C is a splinter for hearts.A simple definition for a splinte - if bidding the suit onelevel cheaper is natural and forcing, the bid is a splinter.Since 3C instead of 4C would be forcing, ... 4C is a splinter. With kind regardsMarlowe
peachy
One does not need two bids for the same hand. In SAYC as well as any system ever played, 3C is natural and forcing, therefore whatever 4C is, it cannot be natural and as such, is obviously forcing. SAYC card does not have splinters so it was showing club ace and heart support. Still, most people who claim to play SAYC, use (or even have agreement with partner to use) splinters. That's what I would guess it is without prior discussion unless I am 100% sure that my partner knows what is on SAYC cards [no splinter].
