BillPatch
I approve of double. 3NT outrageous overbid. Doubler if short of diamonds needs even less in hcp. I would have advanced 3 clubs. 2NT would be an overbid. I assume lebensohl does not apply.
nigel_k
South's double is fine. Only Lebensohl can explain North's 3NT instead of 2NT. It shouldn't apply over 2♦ but assuming you have agreed 2NT is Lebensohl I don't know what North should do. You could make a case for any of pass, 2♥, 2♠, 2NT, 3♣ and 3NT. Probably 2♥ leaving maximum room for someone else to make the hand their problem instead of yours. I doubt you would like playing 2♥ any better than you liked 3NT though. kenrexford
3NT is beyond bizarre. I'm trying to figure out if it could make. If Decarer's LHO has Kx in hearts, that's 3 tricks. Two diamonds if the ace is right, for 5 total. A-K in clubs gets you to 7. Spade King right, for 8. Now, all you need is for spades to come in before the opponents set up diamonds (or spades). What if Responder holds ♠10xx ♥Kx ♦J10xxx ♣Qxx? After, say, a diamond lead and back a diamond, Declarer finesses hearts and leads a spade toward the King. He will eventually end up winning two spades, three hearts, two diamonds, and two clubs. RHO never has an entry. Excellent 3NT call. Phil
What if Responder holds ♠10xx ♥Kx ♦J10xxx ♣Qxx? I rather doubt Opener has five hearts.
benlessard
I think south double is fine but prefer passing. Not having 44 in the M decrease significantly your chance of reaching a fit. North 3nt is insane. There is no leb here.
andy_h
Only North is insane as South's x is perfect. I'd be content with 2NT.
kenrexford
What if Responder holds ♠10xx ♥Kx ♦J10xxx ♣Qxx? I rather doubt Opener has five hearts. Maybe it's one of those really nebulous diamond openings? Actually, kind of funny. I have opened 1♦ with 3532 shape playing canape. So, possible. gwnn
I can think of at least 4 better calls than 3NT. Anyway thanks opps for no x.
Codo
To me lebensohl applies, so 3 Club stands out a mile. And if I would not play Lebensohl, then both 2 NT and 3 CLub would be fine. Where is the problem?
ArtK78
You may, in fact, both be insane. But back to the bridge problem. The double was fine. The 3NT bid was crazy.
bid_em_up
Or to put it another way..... North is out of his friggin mind if he thinks he can make 3N with this holding opposite what is a normal takeout double.
barmar
Maybe you're insane and the 3NT was a delusion. Or maybe pd is trying to drive you insane.
