rbforster
Probably a pass for me. I'd be worried that partner would play me for more like a 10 count (or better) and this isnt one of those sequences where I've got a good and bad raise to 3♣ available. Our likely game (if any) looks like 3N given my major holdings, so I doubt we're making on power unless partner's got a really heavy 2♣ bid and even then I feel like we're going to get too high more often when he's got a 15 count instead of 18. cherdanno
Pass. Can go wrong, of course.
the hog
Some who post here may only have a 3 card suit - seehttp://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=33862&st=15 They will, of course, not be able to make a raise to 3C unless the play Alice in Wonderland Bridge -A bid means what I say it means. For the rest of us, it is close, but the 3 controls sway me in the aggressive direction.
Cascade
Ron are you suggesting that there are some who need four to introduce a new suit?

nigel_k
I would pass this, and yes, I did bid 2♣ on that other one, I accept this approach is occasionally going to lead to a silly contract but I still think it is optimal overall. I'm not certain about a three card 2♣ on the other hand but am about passing this one.
karlson
I would bid, but I think it's very close.
the hog
Ron are you suggesting that there are some who need four to introduce a new suit? Some of the old farts like to have the suits we actually bid.
Phil
3♣ for me.
MarkDean
I would pass. While it is possible that we have a game, it does not seem that likely. We do not have much help for partner's suits in 3NT, and 5 clubs seems a long way off. Much more likely that partner bids a bad one if I bid. Fluffy
pass and I consider this a no brainer. Games are bridges too far.
gwnn
pass but I´m not 100% content with it. however I wouldn´t apologise if wrong :(
rd6789
pass - the clubs are weak - can't see us making game - maybe 3C with KC instead KD - we prob only have 8-card fit so I don't see any preemptive value of 3C
mcphee
Passing strikes me as a rather negative look at my hand. 3C is not at all unreasonable and this is my choice. Game is not out of the question at all and (although perfect hands) can make opposite x Axxxx Ax Axxxx with a bit of good fortune, and this hand is a bit minimum, and perhaps can have x Axxxx Ax AKxxx where the same good fortune with the round suits will produce 12 tricks, and his C could be worse AQ for example and still make 12 tricks. Passing places you at the end of the road, raising leaves the door open, this is imps after all. 3C gets a 10 from mepass gets a
andy_h
I'm a passer although not liking it. An ace and a king along with 4card support I can see game making but I can also picture 3♣ going down or maybe that may excite partner more. If my K was in clubs then it's an easy 3♣ bid but because it's not and I have a singleton heart, it persuades me to a pass.
mich-b
PASS.Sometimes we can make game, but by bidding 3♣ we will go down too many times, until we reach a makeable game.

So with ♠Axxx ♥x ♦Kxxx ♣Kxxx what do you bid?, what about ♣A? If you raise on crap you will have problems when you do not have it. One small point more, your holding on spades ♠Axxx is bad for a limit raise, partner doesn't have the right info to decide. He is gonna misjudge his spade/diamond holdings very often. Let alone the hearts, where he might think KQJxx is supperb.
effervesce
Auto-pass for me. Yes, there are the occasional hand where we miss a game, but its much more likely bidding 3♣ will end up going down, or make 3♣ so wideranging that its much more difficult to reach the correct spot. olliebol
So to be complete here is partners hand:[hv=s=skhaqj532d103caj94]133|100|[/hv] what he or she wil bid on three clubs is probably three hearts and after that i dunno. tx for all the answers. rduran1216
I'd like to pass and bid 3C should an opp. make an attempt to balance, because then I can punish them with a double if they end up in 3D or 3S
