nielsfoged
Like it or not, your partner and you are playing a new home-made artificial system ("Pattern"). Your opponents are World Class, and you are eager to show them that your system is functionable during this 32-board team match. At least they stay out of the bidding, which goes:1♥-1♠; 2♦-2♥, 3♦-? 1♥=17+ Any balanced or Marmic (4441-type) hand1♠=Relay, all hands except weak unbalanced2♦=20-23, Marmic2♥=Gameforcing relay3♦=4-4-4-1, singleton clubs Is it easy?[hv=d=w&v=n&s=skq8h642dj97ck542]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]

se12sam
If 2♦ ("20-23, Marmic") means 20-23 HCP then we may have a slam. Assuming partner has ♣x, then our side has 26 - 29 of the 30 HCPs in the other three suits. I see no harm in exploring a slam in a 4-3 fit. Obviously, if partner has ♣Q singleton etc, this may be more difficult. As our ♠ suit is stronger, it makes sense to bid 3♠ as a slam invite. I'd guess the OP would have a system of relays that helps determine if slam is on.
nielsfoged
If 2♦ ("20-23, Marmic") means 20-23 HCP... Yes, 20-23 means HCP's
ONEferBRID
If opener is not MAX ( 23 ), you risk not even making 10 tricks at NT ( assuming you make a 4NT Quantitative try ). Even with a max, 12 tricks might not roll in if they don't lead a Cl:OpenerA T x xA K Q JA K Q xx
pooltuna
3NT ...WTP?
Fluffy
slam on this missift is LOL. Only possible contracts are 3NT and 4 spades. 3NT will go down only if they lead a club and you have to get past anther trick AND clubs don't behave. And also if they don't lead a club but make later 4 clubs and the trick you give them. But the second choice is not realistic, world class opponent with ♣A must decide to lead the ace and pictch the singleton dummy's likelly honnor, or lead something else, probably he would lead ♣A 4 spdes can be a disaster if spades are 5-1. Against 4-2 it is no piece of cake, win the second club, knock out their outside trick, ruff in dummy, play 2 rounds of trumps, and now everything is ok if you had an entry to hand, ruff in dummy and draw trumps from hand. But you have NO entry to hand. you lose 2 trumps ♣A+ one other trick. Now add that ♣A might be singleton and that you might block clubs maybe and it is an obvious 3NT. rd6789
3nt or 4S only sensible choices and I see you have right sided it for 4S (well done) - but 3NT for me - hope for 9 qucik tricks - 4S might be horrible if they break badly
ArtK78
3NT seems obvious, but I am sure one could contruct hands where 4♠ (or even 4♥) would be better than 3NT. Slam is so unlikely at this point as to be dismissed out of hand.
benlessard
last time i checked 3-3 break is 36%.
gwnn
You should ask Bebopkid. I think with all those hcp 3NT should make on power, even if they lead clubs. BTW the merit of leading through dummy's shortness is not immediately obvious. You can give away loads of tricks like this.
