Double !
PASSnot neg X too much of your strength is wasted in the opp's suit. Even if P has spades, you have little to offer other than good trump support. DHL
pooltuna
QTxxxxxxxKQJ9 p-1♥-2♣-??? all red, imps assuming X is neg then I think pass is the odds on decision. If we have a game partner will have the hand to take some action and should protect us even without that much
peachy
Pass.Never NT, it would be a huge overbid. Negative double would be a little misleading as to values, partner cannot envision that I have 2HCP outside of clubs. Opener is marked with shortness in clubs so he will re-open in the balancing seat with either a Dbl or a bid. If he doesn't reopen, then I am content to defend 2C. neilkaz
I am pass here and am going head hunting. Perhaps 3NT is on for 600 for us or maybe 620 in 4♠, but then 2♣x assuming pard reopens with X is most likely scoring us 500. Perhaps 800 rather than 630 if LHO is broke. The big gains come when we can't make game but set 2♣x one or two tricks. +200 is lots better than minus -100. If PD can't reopen we most likely don't have game on and can hope to score 100 or 200. If the opps somehow make 2♣x it is not game an no tragedy as they really can't expect an OT, and most likely we can't make game either. On a very bad day, we may be missing 4♠ or 3NT when 2♣x makes, but that is a VERY bad day, noting that almost 66 million years ago an asteroid or comet struck the earth and wiped out most non bacterial life. Pass for penalties..2♣x is not game if they make and people overcall on such trash nowadays. I wouldn't be surprised to see RHO with five ♣ to the AT and 11 or 12 total HCP. (In which case he's may go for 1100 if he PD has a yarb)

However, I suspect that the really bad bridge day (2♣x making and 4♠ on our way) is somewhat less rare.

gwnn
pass yields 800 or 620 (depends if partner bids 2♠ or x).x yields 6202NT, the bid chosen by the guy at the table, probably gets a nice 150. (I was the 2♣ bidder)
helene_t
I don't get it. You say partner is strong enough to bid 2♠ if you pass, but weak enough to pass if you bid 2NT? What kind of hand did he have?
